How many clowns are safe in a 120?

I was looking around in an LFS yesterday and they had two black ocellaris clowns that I would love to have. Problem is, I already have two regular ocellaris clowns in my tank. One is rather large and the other is still small but they do swim around together. I wasn't sure about being able to add the two black clowns without any trouble so I wanted to check here to see if anyone knows if its possible or not.

Once in a while there will be an exception........I would suggest against it unless you are prepared to remove one of the pairs if ( when ) there is an issue.

As Todd said, normally two, especially since yours have sexually differentiaed, is the maximum. You could get lucky but the odds are against you.

I have a pair of clarkii's, a pair of ocellaris and a gold strip maroon in my tank. The clarkii's and the ocellaris are together and the maroon is sectioned off. They get along just fine. And I did get lucky. Oh my tank is a 75gal.

I have kept multiple clowns in my 6' tanks on numerous occasions. In every case I have not been able to resist the urge to add just one more, or one more pair. The end result is that fish that were formerly living peacefully start fighting. In short it upsets the entire balance of the system. and you have to remove all of them and start over. Knowing what I know now, I don't do it any more.
One pair per tank. No more.

Yeah, I was thinking that same thing, thanks for verifying it. I thought I heard about only being able to keep one pair but couldn't find where. Thanks for the help.

Had 3 mature pairs ( onyx, b/w occ and pink skunk ) in 240g for over 3 years without problem. But, I thinks this maybe the exception.

My pink skunks were the culprit the last time. They were handing the latezonatus' butts to them. The latz are twice their size. I thought the latz were doing it to each other since the male was added about the time they started getting chunks of their fins missing. Then I caught the female skunk attacking my latzes. I had to remove the skunks and a polymnus that were residing there after the addition of the second latz.

i saw a tank at the zoo with ocellaris skunk and polymnus and the Skunks were terrorizing the others.

One pair... As others have said, you'll probably have bad luck with any more than two because of territory issues
