How many clowns is too many?

I just read the 27 clowns in one tank thread - wow.

I am setting up a 14g biocube, and I have 4 ocellaris in quarantine. I picked up 4 because I have had 50/50 luck with where I buy them and days later they die off even with impecable acclimation.
anyway - thus far (it's been a week, I still have all 4, and they are doing well so far)

they are getting along fine right now in a 20g QT - do you think if I put them all in the biocube, that they would continue to get along?? (I'm thinking no, but I am hoping yes....)

I personally wouldn't have more then 1 pair in any (( averaged )) sized tank, let alone in a 14 gallon tank. Besides the fighting, IMO, that is too much of a bio-load for that sized tank. Would be better off just keeping 2 of them -- the largest and smallest.

the 27 clown fish thread is a large tank with multiple nems. and i think they have been together sense they were juvi's. and even with a large tank and multiple nems there are still some issues. i say split the pair up in two diff tanks. it will save you heart ache when the boys start roughhousing and kill the weakest one and then fight for which boy is going to be the girl. then what happens to the third wheel?

Yeah, I dont know how that guy does it. And I am pretty sure they were all juveniles..but wow - he's got something awesome going there. Doubt many could duplicate!

I wish they would just get along!
I am going to have to sell the "extra" 2 - another tank is out of the question for now...$$$$$ oi!
