how many people keeping freshwater

i have a ehiem 2080 cannister filter for sale or trade sorry for jumping in on your thread i had freshwater for years and have some stuff left over

What was your stock list on the 60

Typical mix of plants (crypts, anubias, a few smaller swords, a bunch of stuff I don't remember). I started with lots of stems but eventually removed almost all of them because they grew too well. I was throwing out a giant mixing bowl of trimmings every week.

Fish were a bunch of rummynose and neon tetras and a few angels, plus a few various cleaners.

Once I got rid of the faster growing stems it was pretty hands-off. I would do a large water change once or twice a month, which was easy because I used straight tap and had a hose that reached the bathroom sink. I was selling plants about once a month, the system basically paid for itself.

I think my favorite feature on that tank was that the top was open and the lights were suspended above, so I had room for emergent growth.

I had a Amazon biotope going on for quite awhile. I think trying to create a specific place is more fun. Keep in mind that some states ban certain freshwater plants from being sold in the state. This is due to the invasive nature of some of the plants. good luck

I like freshwater as much as salt. Planted tanks are much more relaxing and pleasing to the eye especially during the winter months. To be able to see thriving, greenery when it's grey outside is a huge benefit. In terms of fish my favorite have always been discus. Not sure I could ever give up reef tanks but currently if I had to choose to only have one tank it would be fw.

I just sold my FW planted this weekend and took some final pics. I will post them later.

I enjoyed it for awhile but I have a small house and the 125 was just taking up too much space. Also I set it up as a room divider so it could be enjoyed from both sides in my basement and I slowly grew to hate it from both sides and wish I had my room back.

I set up a vivarium to cure the winter greenery thing GMaquarium mentioned. Now that thing is zero maintenance.

I've got a 55 gallon freshwater tank. I started in freshwater, and as others have said, they're calming and relaxing. I need to do some plant trimming today, and then I'll post some pictures up of mine. If I have the money, I want to upgrade to a 125 gallon or bigger in the next year. A nice planted freshwater tank is so much cheaper and easier to maintain than a saltwater tank.

I have a 75g low light planted tank. This tank has had minimal maintenance for the past couple years while I have been working on my reef. I love my fresh tank. I don't think I would ever take it down. Its kinda nice to have a fresh and a reef in the same room. Here's a picture of mine.

nice pix!

nice pix!

FW planted has always tempted me... especially after Tom added on that back room at TRS.... but I'm done. No more aquariums for me.

Tom (tmz) do you have a FW aquarium? Brackish?

Nice tanks everyone! Here is the one I just tore down. No C02, dirt substrate with sand cap. It is kinda filthy here because I tore it down right after.

filthy?

I don't see it.

But I do see an old Marshall cab back there!
I used to have one of those grey faced ones with Celestions!

Looks like a Les Paul and a maple board Strat, too........ am I right?

Tell me something tho....did you get rid of that awesome Manzanita branch or w/e it might be? Lol...I'd love a piece like that but I'd need to put up a car payment to buy one one of the ones online.

LOL. you are almost right. it is a newer avatar cab with the wheat cloth, an SG and a Fender Lead 1 with maple board.

Jacwil, I kept the wood. That is actually three pieces zip-tied together. I bought it from Tom Barr, I highly recommend joining his forum and buying from him. I think it was $45 plus twenty something in shipping for the main piece and four extras. Not too bad. If you're gonna do FW, you gotta get a good piece of driftwood IMO.

Nice! And I agree about the driftwood...we also have our pieces raising out of the water...love that look!

Will def chk out his site..thx for tip!

That tank looks awesome it's kind of the look I am going for along with maybe some exposed driftwood

I had freshwater tanks for 20 years, now in my 40's it's reefing all the way. Maybe it's my love for everything tropical.
