How many SPS do you have in your tank?

Being a slow, rainy Friday afternoon and the phone is quite, I decided to count my SPS frags and colonies.

I counted a total of 31 SPS in my 58 gallon tank. They range from 1/2 inch frag to a 6x6 acro and birds nest.

The bad thing is I want more! I am even thinking about getting rid of my 7 inch clam just so I have some more room!

Tell her the more you have the less time you'll spend on the tank because they'll help clean the water works every time

Okay, I was thinking, what do I do once the small ones grow up.

31 or like duec22 27 SPS, it can get pretty crowded in there.

I have 50+ in my 55 :) I like the look of a few large corals as well cward but for this tank I wanted a Bonsai like, garf-esk tank. I want them to fuse together and I just frag the extra.

I'm keeping that many only because I come across really great deals all the time...and hopeing to grow the frags out into mini colonies for when I upgrade..but yeah it's a juggeling game at the moment...as I've gotten more and more SPS many of my other corals have been sold off or given to other local reefers to make room.. And a few of the frags that I have are prospect pieces..I want to see what they will color up to...if I don't like them they go into our clubs raffel.

If you can count them all you don't have enough..

 Ain't that the truth!

I have between 45-50 sps in my120 and nothing else besides fish. I had well over twice that before I moved I sold alot and lost a few. I like my tank much better now than before it has the right amount room for the corals to grow.

pushing 70 in my 180 all from frags. I have a bunch of lps too. If I could do it all over, I would buy 15 or 20 really nice frags and let them grow. It's just too difficult not buying every sps I see that I don't have.

I had about 60 different types in my 90 and 40 before I moved a few months back. I did some serious trimming and culled quite a few and I now have 31 in my 120. To be honest the tank would look better with about 15 but I am hard pressed to figure out which ones to get rid of. Getting rid of pieces is much harder than buying them;)

I think that is what part of the fun of the hobby. It is hard to imagine what a 1 inch frag is going to look like 6 months to a year from now. I also think we go through stages. Monti digis, then to caps and arco's and etc. I have a feeling as we mature in the hobby we gravitate towards more changing corals and collector corals. Deciding which to keep and which to get rid of or frag is part of that development.

Sort like gardening, you can only plant so many roses it the garden and which ones you choose and why is part of the fun.

Interesting enough, I sold a frag of a teal hydro a couple of years ago. The mother colony died. This weekend I picked-up a frag of it from the guy I sold the frag to 3 or 4 years ago. Pretty cool.
