how many vortech i need

ihave a 180 Gal tank .i would like to use vortech to make the wave.so how many mp40 w i need ?

1 or 2 should be plenty. Depends on your rockwork.

I can get a sizable wave in my 180 with two no problem. This would probably be fine for LPS, but I would recommend more if you're doing SPS.

Unlike a VorTech, a wave box displaces the same water back and forth because the intake of the pump is constrained by the box around it. This will not result in mass movement of water throughout the tank, only back and forth. Because the VorTech has no box, two pumps in short pulse mode used to create a standing wave will provide entire tank circulation without the need for more pumps or other circulation products. Typical recommendations are that additional pumps be used in tanks with wave boxes; they are not intended to be used as the sole means of flow.
