how much flow for a 29

I tinkered with my flow and ended up with 2 korila 4's and one korialia #3. I also have a maxi1200 in the centre of the back of the tank on a timer to disturb the flow.
I like alot of other reefers thought it was a good thing to do.

However, my frog spawn shut down, and two of my gonipora on the bottom also would not open.
I changed the angle of a couple of them so they are bouncing off the front glass first and move the gonipora===everyone is happy again.

I guess the point is that you really have to tinker with these depending on the corals you have in your tank......and

despite all this flow across the substrate I still have to baste the sand bed every week or else I get traces of cyano or algae

but then I still love to spoil feed my fish so like everything else it is balance balance balance

Bertoni your going to have a 1600 gph straight laminar rocket of water coming out of there--plus you can't run the mj's on a variable timer if you mod them:eek2:

If korilia would only come out with the variable timer they keep promising it would be alot easier to use these

That's been my other issue...finding that right balance. I had some issues with my torch not opening...basically the same as you. I either had too much or not enough in certain areas. I started moving stuff around and adjusting flows until everyting seemed happy...except my open brain. He's still "cupped" shaped and not really completely open. I can't seem to find a happy place for him.

I've come to realize that not everything in the hobby is an exact science and that what may work for someone may have the opposite effect for someone else's tank.

But, again, I'm still new enough to not really know what is exact and what isn't. That's what great about this site...it's easy enough to find out!

Dileggi said it .Control.Thats the thing with koralias.Lack of control.They are good powerheads and if used in the right hands can provide great flow. A powerhead with flow control and dirrection control is great insurance. The #4 maybe a little large but the 3 would be great. You do have good rock placement just need to get flow throughtout the whl tank,. Try the feeding method.Feed a littel extra frozen and whatch how it floats.

never never ever feel that way---that is how we learn---I post my tank hoping someone will give me a tip or so and they have--its a learning tool---posting your tank--not the Miss America contest

When I posted by filtration system someone brought a key possible electrical problem I wasn't aware off

Thanks demonsp. I'll definitely try the feeding method. I'm sure mine will sink like a brick, but at least I'll know what to look for.

I can't speak for the 3, but I don't think you should add a 4 to your 29, just think it would be way to big and really stand out. I have a 4 in my 75 and while it isn't too big, it isn't hidden either.

You can see it on the right hand side (( top )) this is in a 4 foot tank.

The reason I am asking it I just was given a butterfly and it is in my spare tank. I have had it for 5 days now--can't get it to eat

Take any and all repleys in stride. Theres no one way to get it right.Only a combination of results to get the prefect result. But you most also remeber that many threads are repeated day after day and some of us may want to help just as much one day but we are helping right after the wife yelled at them for some dumb dream they had. Or husband spent way to much on that new coral.Or my case after an 18 pack.Only on # 9 right now.
Any response givin is well placed in most cases.If they arent report there uncoropertive you know whats.

Good point and well taken. I know patience is the key to this hobby as I've read in numerous posts throughout RC. I guess when you look at what people have created, and then wonder why my hair and bubble algae grows better than my gsp it's just discouraging sometimes. But, that's a great point. I would much rather have someone point out a flaw and give advice so that I can fix it and know for next time.

I definitely welcome all replies. I've learned much more here than in all the books I've purchased. I've never had an instance where I've had an issue with anyone's replies. Everyone, at least in my case have been very helpful and patient.

I'm noticing that it takes a combination of results to get to the end result and that there's no exact science to a lot of this. I'm just hoping at some point I start getting results instead of creating consequences! LOL!
