How much skimmate?

76 gal tank 20 gal sump. Euro reef Skimmer. Not sure of the Model #.

How much skimmate should I have in the cup every day? I get about one cup per week. Really nice dark gunk. Makes you want to spill ... I was wondering is one cup per week enough or if I should be removing more.

I feed about every other day. The tank is full of coral and not so many fish any more.

That's about right. If it's real dark and stinky then the skimmer is doing the job. If it's just cloudy water then you need to to do something. I have an ASM G3 recirc on a 55g with a 30g sump and it take's about 9 day's to fill the cup.

If you clean the neck every couple of days you may get a little more production.

A good goal is "supposed" to be 1 cup a day. To get that, it may be a little more watery. If you can't get it, start tweaking. There is a long thread I'll post the link below that talks about some ways to increase the output of skimmers. Some try all the methods in the thread and still have a hard time getting that but then at least you're doing your best. The thread below was also before mesh mods and that seems to be a good mod from what I hear.

DrBDC: I wish I could pull a cup of the gunk out each day but I would need 7 more skimmers.

capncapo: I have noticed this last week and started cleaning ever other day. In addition to pulling all the gunk out of the neck you do get more skimmate.

Does anyone have a link to a good mesh mod page?

Good video there. The only bad thing about this mod is tha you can't go back. Once you cut those pinns off they ae gone and you are stuck.... I'l give it a try anyway.

You can always replace the needlewheel impeller if you want to go back.

I have a Euro Reef as well and it takes about 3 to 5 days to get close to a full cup of skimmate. I have just started using it now close to 3 weeks and still tweeking it. I have the riser pipe all the way up right now. Does anyone else have skimmate that smells like a "johnny on the spot" just got dumped in the room your in? The smell makes me gag its so bad. I have been curing some live rock for awhile now, will it get a little better after the debris from the rock quits falling off?

The bad smell is a good thing Ryan. It means that your skimmer is doing it's job.

Schpiltter- do you have your Euro Reef skimmer plumbed to the water going down from the tank? I am thinking about doing this with mine but I don't see how I can with the type of pump the skimmer has. It doesn't look like I can with out maybe buying some adapters.

I'm not sure of the model # of the skimmer I have. Mine seems to be a in sump only skimmer.

I'm sure that you can some how hoock it up to your tank return but I don't know if you can use your skimmer pump to return the water back to the tank...

Mine works just fine sitting in the sump but you know what they say; "if it works try and scrue it up."

I have to do the mesh mod on mine. Anyone out there that can tell me where to buy the mesh?

Mine is doing well right now and I am in no hurry to change the set up but thinking about it. If its gonna be a pain then no way.
