How often do you clean your glass?

I clean my tank with a magfloat about every 5-7 days and then I have to use a little elbow grease and a scraper to get the coraline algae off about every 2 weeks.

Yikes. I absolutely HATE it when kids come over and are like, "Oooh, what's this for?" then proceed to grab it and drag it around. Heaven forbid they see me doing it. CHILDREN!

I don't agree m kids do it and they are 10 and 8 year olds. They know how to do I and what to do if it happens to get the bottom and pick up sand. You just have to teach them.

All it takes is one tiny piece of sand under that Mag Float and you've got scratches all over your glass. I don't have children visitors often, but when I do, I put the Mag Float out of reach for the duration. I don't encourage adults to use it either.

I don't live my mag float in the water, that is nasty, but I do go over to lots of peoples houses and see it all the time.

Well, those are YOUR kids. I don't have kids. I'm talking about other people's kids.

Wow, once a month only? I'm jealous. Is it that infrequent because nothing grows on the glass or because you can't see through it anymore. :-)

For whatever reason I don't get algae growth on my front glass. I do get growth on my small ATS that sits in my aquaclear filter and on the rockwork (been fighting GHA since June and have finally won) though.

get one of these for any stubborn algae. It will easily take off coralline algae. every month or two i use it to trim back coralline to within 1/8" of the silicon. It attaches to your mag float. it uses special metal blades. it is available on-line. it automatically puts just the right amount of pressure on the blade....works great!!

Depends on water quality / Feeding habits the past few days...

Mostly every 3 days at most... because I look at my tank often and I try to keep the front pane clean.

When I take a week long vacation, I come back and the glass looks like a jungle!

I change water every 2 weeks. I clean my front and sides every 3 days. In fact, it starts small thin films of green patches in 2 days. I use mag float with Mr. Magic slice as pad to clean -- works great. I was out of the country for 3 weeks, came back last week and I hardly could see my corals.

Every 2-3 days the algae haze builds up and I use my magfloat. Everything just looks duller...if you look at the front pane through one of the sides of the tank, it is much more noticable.

I clean the glass on my reef tank every two days with a Mag Float, then I use a Kent Scraper with a stainless steel blade and then I use the Kent Scraper padded blade. Works great.

Like others i clean every day or two. I dont like to let it build up and muck the water when i clean it

Glad I found this thread. Was starting to think that me having to clean the glass every 3 days meant that there was something wrong with the water quality.

Someone needs to invent a saltwater plecostomus. :)

I usually clean the front and side glass every 2-3 days, it's usually the powdery brown algae. The back wall doesn't seem too look too bad for at least 1-2 weeks before I clean it. I like to leave some for CUC.

it's usually the powdery brown algae.

Yeah, that's what I keep getting too. I've been changing out 30% of the water weekly to try and combat it but within 3 days everything is covered again. it's very frustrating...especially when I see all these other hobbyists with beautiful clean tanks that look like they never have algae issues. I'm very tempted to try some Chemiclean or Pristine to see if either of them will help delay the algae growth.
