How often do you clean your glass?

i use ro/di water and i still clean my glass weekly to make it look "show room"

Also I added in four more snails yesterday

Does it stay "show room" clean for the whole week?

What kind of snails do you have in how many gallons and do you feel they are a significant help keeping the front glass clean?

I have 5 grandkids who just love taking turns with the MagFloat, front and both sides, never the back, I leave that for the critters to fight over!

what if they scratch the glass w sand that gets caught? yikes!

Does a UV sterilizer make it so no algae forms? i clean mine every 2-3 days.. but i hate cleaning the bottom part with the scraper

Razor blade is Ok if you stay away from efges and don't tilt it sideways or the corner will scratch, an old creit card near the edges about every other month.

Clean glass once a week like clockwork w/ a window (plastic) squeegee, stays show room quality for about 3 days and nice for 5 days and kinda hazy for 2 days.

Get a length of small pvc long enough to reach the bottom. Using a hacksaw, cut a diagonal slit in one end. Insert razor blade and presto, a handy scraper that didn't cost much. By the way, the other end of this thing has a little toothbrush stuck in it. That comes in handy now and then.

This is a great idea, thanks for posting! If you have never cleaned your glass with a razor bade let me tell ya there is nothing that compares. It's like seeing your tank in HD.

Yikes. I absolutely HATE it when kids come over and are like, "Oooh, what's this for?" then proceed to grab it and drag it around. Heaven forbid they see me doing it. CHILDREN!

All it takes is one tiny piece of sand under that Mag Float and you've got scratches all over your glass. I don't have children visitors often, but when I do, I put the Mag Float out of reach for the duration. I don't encourage adults to use it either.

I've made it into a habit of cleaning the glass with a magnet cleaner once a day. It helps by slowing down the coralline algae growth, but best of all I see my snails spending less time on the glass and more time on the rocks.

LOL. If my neighbor is coming over I have to clean the glass before he gets there or he'll start doing it. He's watched me build my reef from day 1. Freshwater folk! I know he's trying to help, but it drives me crazy!

Do you happen to know first hand or otherwise if that Mag Flip really cleans coralline algae off the glass? It doesn't seem at first glance that the magnet could exert enough force for the blade to chip off the coralline.

Mag floats will only get some of the corraline off your glass. If you've let a lot of it build up you won't touch it. You've got to clean it frequently if you want it to work. The Kent scrapers work great.

I seem to clean the front and sides of mine every couple of days. The back is just whenever I get tired of the green. Or when I can see an obvious pattern from a snail plowing through. That's clear sign that I need to break out the scraper.

Front: Daily with Mag Float. Sides, Mag Float every weekend. I let the back go about a month. My CUC do a good job of keeping it clean, I just touch up.

I clean my glass every three days or so. Also my mag float has a razor attachment which I love and the razor takes care of any corraline algae.

I don't mean to hijack, but I need a scraper for the front of my 72 bowfront. I have just recently getting a hard green film on front, assuming to be coraline.

Sincerely,

David
