How often do you replace your heater?

my heaters i have are about 8 years old and still kicking.
They are always in the water but only kick on during Nov to Feb.
Rest of the year they never come on.

As someone who just lost their whole reef to a heater that exploded. I would say I would change them once a year or so for good measure.

This is also known as the smell test... Very effective to know if you have a heater malfunction. Usually you can do it without even looking directly at the tank.

I have 2 Eheim heaters, been in my tank 4+ years. If you buy a quality heater, and secure it correctly in the sump you shouldn't need to change it for years. I'm really surprised to hear people change their heaters yearly, seems like a waste of money.
