how 'old' does your tank have to be.....

My cube has been operating for about 2 months. I am jonesing so bad for a clam (or two....). Does anyone here have experience adding clams to a new tank? I've heard that the conventional wisdom is not to add them until your tank has been operating for six months (+)

My water parameters are great....added cured live rock when I first started the tank. Have grown acros successfully......

Also.....do people have experience with clamsdirect.com ?

it would be in your best interest ( and the clams ) to wait a bit. you are correct about the general rule being 6 months+, this gives your tank time to stabilize. to be succesful at keeping clams you need strong light and stable parameters.

Clams Direct is great to deal with and have the best quality stock ( that i have seen ) on the net. the owner is a treat to deal with and is genuinely concerned with the health of your clam, even after it has been shipped.

I don't have crocea clams in my tank, so I can't speak for them. I did add a gigas and two squamosas to my tank when it was about 3 mos old and they are fine. However, I think the conventional wisdom is that these are much hardier than a crocea...

Regarding clamsdirect, I have ordered from them a couple times, they are great to deal with and will definitely use them again.

good luck, jeff
