I am considering hitting up PetCo's 1$ gallon sale and pick up a 40 gallon breeder. But then I'd have to buy LED's since the two tanks have different kits and I don't want to mess what is there in case I want to give away or sell.

Or, just let them ride it out and put that money into a 100 to 190 gallon tank I've been looking at instead. Only issue is the one tank has 3 rose bubble tips that seem to want to continue to split and actually are now over loading the tank :(

I have a DSA Neo 105 and it seems to be a good size for me. The tank dimensions are 48l x 24w x 21h. I would love to have a reef savvy one day since the overflow is outside the tank and doesn't take up room inside. My goal someday would be a 72 x 24/27 x 21. Even though I am 6' and have long arms I don't like deep tanks very much. The DSA cost me $1300ish shipped with tank, stand and overflow kit (which I really shouldn't of bought the overflow kit).

Inside the DSA overflow it has four holes. I used a combo bean animal/ herbie style. It looks just like the herbie but I used the extra overflow like the bean animal.

I should hijack Paul's thread and just put my build here it would get more hits ;) Though, would it be hijacking since my name is Paul too?
 
You can hijack all you want. my threads are everyone's threads. You can put pancake recipi's on here if you like.
I have a 6' wide 14" high tank which is an odd size but I wanted that for the aquascape and the fact that I am not 6' so my arms would not reach down into a 4' deep tank. I don't remember where I got my tank or who made it.
I worked in Barney's clothes store in Manhattan and they had an 18 foot long tank that was about a foot high. I would love something like that, think of the aquascaping you could do in there. And you could put in a 9' moray eel. Of course you may have to take him out of the water occasionally to turn him around.
As for pancakes, I made some yesterday but I am the king of Clam chowder. Manhattan clam chowder is my thing and I make it all the time. I know that most of the country eats New England Chowder which is easier to make, but here in NY we eat Manhattan Clam Chowder. I don't know why, but like everything here, not important. Maybe to the clams it is. :uhoh3:

Thanks Crimson. I've actually been looking at the DSA's. I sent them a email a few weeks back asking about ordering without their overflow since I wanted to install a bean animal. More than likely I'll stay within the 100 gallon range or a tick over. I don't need anything huge and once it is up and running I don't like to tinker too much.

If I could move one of the bubble tips to the other tank I would but last time I tried it was difficult to reach the foot without moving everything around. And the clowns that are hosting in there, well, little things have a mean bite. Never again will I own a pair of those things.

No problem, I don't even remember what most of this thread was about as I get mixed up. I have another thread on here that spans 8 or 9 years and I forget what I write where.
 
I like Manhattan clam better then New England. Honestly, cream based soups are harder to make. It takes move flavor to cut through the heavy cream. Trust me on this one Paul. I made many cream based soups before (see history below).

Before going into computers as a career I went to culinary school to become a "classically" trained chef. Almost got kicked out for arguing with a FRENCH chef how to make tomato sauce which my family being from south philly called "gravy" but only if it had meat in it. If it was seafood based or just plain then its marinara (we sometimes just dropped the "a" at the end while others would say marinad). Anyway, back to the French chef, he made me thicken it with a *blanking* roux! A roux for those non-culinary people it is a mixture of a fat and flour used as a thickening agent. What the chef was trying to teach me was the French version of the sauce (Sauce tomate). I finally broke down the barrier since I really had no choice.

Roux is fine when making cream based sauce or soup. A classical sauce with milk thicken with a roux is called a bechamel sauce.

That's cool. My Son In Law owns a French peasent food restaurant in Brooklyn in Fulton Street. It is like French Truck stop food. Not really French (which I don't care for) The place had different, really good but different food and a great bar. It's called 3 Letters because there are 3 partners and they all have 3 letters in their first name.
 
Crimson, Culinary school, I am impressed. I actually helped build the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan, but I didn't cook there. I do like to cook and I am pretty good, probably not as good as you, but pretty good. I like to cook Asian food but I do a lot with fish. of course Manhattan Clam Chowder is my favorite and I even collect the clams. My family was in the seafood business as I know I must of mentioned 10 times on here.
Anyway, I just fed my tank and I have to say, everything is looking real healthy. It goes through phases but now, for some reason it looks as healthy as it can look. The Clown Gobies spawned so many times (and last night) that their acropora is really sad looking with hair algae growing in most places on it. But I like it. The fireclowns alternate fighting and spawning which I guess is normal. The 2 pairs of cardinals are still spawning and look really healthy.
My possum wrasse still hides but he comes out occasionally to say hello. The two pistol shrimp are digging up the tank like they always do and the same watchman who is the largest fish in the tank hang out with them but he is a wimp and is afraid of all the other fish. The corals, especially the hammer corals are growing kind of fast and most of the SPS are growing over their bases. I lost a few when I went to Hawaii and the tank sitter screwed up.
The mandarins are still eating from the feeder and are also spawning. I like the way the tank is doing now but like many things in life it goes through cycles.
I built and put in a new bottle a week ago and already it looks a few years old. I wish I had a really large tank so I can built a lot more things. I always wanted an anchor, I mean a real anchor with a chain in there that would seem as if it was breaking corals and bottles as it rose to the surface. I remember seeing just that many years ago and I always wanted to re-create it. Maybe some day.

Meet my new Grand Son Teddy who was born a few hours ago. We got the call at 2:30 this morning and made it to Manhattan to greet him a few hours before he was born. I am not sure how long I have to wait to get him a tank or take him SCUBA diving.
Wow Fishroomlady, a Supermodel. I am all excited and tingly. Most Supermodels don't have a name like Fishroomlady, but I like it.

It has been a long day. I just fed my fish and even they are all excited as they figured I forgot about them. I really did but you got to have priorities. I passed the tank before and some of the fish, especially the sizzortail had this pitiful look on his face so I shot some worms in the tank. Of course the copperband ate most of them so I also had to thaw out some Mysis and then I noticed that I had a large number of new born brine shrimp (as I do every day) so I poured them in the feeder and now the mandarins are even smiling and they are usually grumpy. Then of course the two pistol shrimp come out to see what is going on so I had to cut up a piece of clam and try to get it past the fireclown and copperband. So it became a big deal and I thought I was going to relax.
Teddy is coming home from the hospital tomorrow and I am sure his big sister (17 months) will say something to him like Good bye, go away, or just NO. :wavehand:
She is not going to be happy at all as her cushy life is about to be turned up side down. Poor Greta.

It is cold today and I am just happy I didn't spend New Years Eve in Times Square.
I was there almost every day of my working career but never want to be there last night. New Yorkers leave that place to tourists. :celeb3:
I will be there today however as I am going to visit Teddy:beer:
