I just pulled a nasty 12" black and red fireworm out of my tank! I should have taken a picture of it before I gave it a tour of my garbage disposal. I was in too big of a hurry to kill it.
It had thousands of white bristles going down each side of its body.
I actually caught about 5 of them today, but that is the trophy worm!
I took a piece of frozen cocktail shrimp about 1.25" long and burried it 1/2 way in the sand about 3" away from the piece of live rock that I see the worms in. Gave it about 10 minutes and little worms were popping out like there was a worm party somewhere and they were all invited.
The second one touched the shrimp, I'd pinch it as far back near the rock as I could and very gently pull. They break in half easy, so you don't want to pull hard, or apply too much pressure to the tweezers.
This worm kept coming, and coming out of the rock. I've seen it before, but only about 2 or so inches of it. And it was thick too, about 1/4 of an inch thick. Most fireworms I catch are only about 1/16th of an inch thick and about 2 or so inches long. This was the king daddy of the worms in my tank though.
I'm sure there about a hundred or so more of them. Little devils!
What are those little white bristles on each of it's sides. They don't look nice!
