You can't really make them per se. It's really up to your clowns and or Anemone. I've had a clown host a powerhead for 3 months with an Anemone in the tank.. After 3 months he left powerhead for a Duncan! He didn't even go near the Anemone.

Now some clowns just jump right in.

So, it really depends on the clown and or Anemone. Also, I've never seen a maxi mini host a clown. Doesn't mean they won't though. Give your clown some time.

You can't make them or force them to host an anemone. There have been reports of clownfish hosting torch corals, frogspawn, mushrooms, duncans to name a few. So why waste , energy and money on an anemone?

They don't need an anemone to survive.

If I'm not mistaken, some species of carpet anemone eat fish.

aight. i like the carpets even if they dont house the clowns. the carpet has proven a good dumpster for a couple fish that seem to have been rejected by the community. mobster fish lol. thnx for the thoughts

one thing i have done (call me crazy) is print out pictures of clowns swimming in an anemone. Post them on your tank facing in. I have had 2 sets of clowns and done this with both sets and within a couple weeks they are in the anemone

this worked for me on one of my clowns but not the other. i had the room completely blacked out so no lights at all. then i shined a flashlight onto the anemone. within 5 minutes the clown took to it. in a different tank with a different clown, it didnt care at all, and i couldnt get it to go to it

Shoot mysis shrimp into the nem so the clowns chase after them and are attracted to it. Do this frequently when feeding and hope the clowns take to the nem.

My answer is pretty much the same as everyone else's. You can't make a clown and an anemone host. It either happens or it doesn't. My clown has has been the house guest of 3 different anemones and gonipora coral.

I says house guest because the close DOES NOT host the anemone. It is reverse, the anemone is the host to the clown.

I know there have been plenty of people who have offered me a couch to stay on or a spare room, but I didn't always want to stay with them.

If you have a natural host it's pretty much guaranteed your anemone will host the clown. The problem is, many times people put the common species of clowns, percs and ocellaris in tanks with a non-natural host and then wonder why it takes weeks, months, perhaps never. Gigantea and magnifica, two of the most difficult species of anemone to successfully keep are perfect hosts for those species. Often times people have success with percs and ocellaris eventually going to BTAs, or other host species. Carpets can definitely eat clowns, reportedly even the maximinies.

I was going to suggest that the OP put in a few reef safe signposts, 'anemone this way', 'house for rent, cheap' or 'come on down you're the next contestant on .....'; but your approach is even sillier. Don't imagine it makes a whit of difference either way.

Are you talking about black occis and a haddoni anemone? I am assuming that's what you mean by a carpet. If so, as others mentioned, there's nothing you can do. If you want, you can swap out your clowns for Amphiprion clarkii, A. sebae, A. akindynos, A. chrysogaster, A. chrysopterus, or A. polymnus, all of which use S. haddoni as a host.

I plan to invent a synthesized blend of gigantea and magnifica cells that can be applied to another anemone. Percs and occis will be attracted to it.

I'm kidding by the way, but wouldn't that be cool??? :smokin:
