How to lose 2 pr...

Let's say you are a happy male fire clown dutifully tending your nest. Woud you suddenly decide to visit the neighbors?? What if your neighbors were a much older and larger maroon clown pair that wre ALSO tending a nest? Would the visit be a smart idea? Apparantly it would not, I found the male fire in the gsm tank barely hanging on to life and worse yet there is no sign of the female gsm. I can only imagine that during the raging war that took place she decided to go airborne and is probably resting (permanantly) somewhere behind the tank rack. This blows, I have had that pair for several years and they lay nests that look like throw rugs. 1500-2000 eggs easy. I suppose it's finally tme to cover the tanks no matter how much of a PITA that makes maintenence.

im sorry for the loss.

i know there are issues with covering tanks, but sometimes you have to weight the worse of the two evils, and i will always have my tanks covered for that reason.

i just hear too many stories with established clowns jumping even after years of acclimation.

i have all my tanks covered with glass but exposed about 1-2 inches on each side.

again sorry to hear this.

Been there, done that. Still sucks the big one. Sorry for your loss.
Still haven't covered my tanks, thankfully I only have 40 or so broodstock tanks, still a PITA.

My tanks are hooded with open backs. I have eggcrate installed in the openings, hanging on hooks etc. One 20 broodstock tank had no eggcrate installed because I was lazy. I lost 3 pairs to that tank until I covered it.

Sorry about your loss. Lids are no fun, but when you lose a valuable pair they are worth every penny.

Sorry about your GSM they had some amazing nest. At least you still have your female.

:( :( :( :(

That really stinks David, Sorry for your losses, I could never leave my tank uncovered because I have cats and cat/dog hair, i guess that's ok..I don't think it's that bad with the lid, just move it to the side and slide my light forward. Best of luck..Carl

have you heard of egg crate?

All my tanks are covered, all , with it , acrilic and some with plastic bags, a dead dotty on the floor is ten bucks my friend.

Yea the newer tanks all have eggcrate covers, these tanks are my first system and the way I plumbed the return makes it difficult to really cover them. I know what to do, just been lazy about it

I had at one time covered my parent tanks with egg crate, drove them crazy. Basically scared the bejeezus outta them, even the O's that I was feeding by hand hid and stopped eating.

Quick tip # 6492:
If you get the chrome plated egg crate for free, don't use it. the coating will corrode and drop who knows what into you systems.

I use the regular white stuff and never had a problem with the fish freaking out. never had a surf attepts either (by my clowns that is  ). Sorry to hear about your losses. Did you ever find the female maroon?
