How to pair maroon clowns

this is great! i was just going to post a question on how to pair up maroon's. wanted to make sure the guy at the LFS was on the up and up on what he told me. and what he told me was pretty much what's posted here. i did find it strange that the LFS had 3 small maroons in 3 seperate tanks. now i know why.

just one observation:

I'm glad my wife didnt kick my @$$ in order to go on our first date...

happy valentine's day fishies!
 Tearing off your arms and legs would have been kinda bad, huh?

A funny coincidence is that my female finally accepted the little male on Valentine's Day. I guess there was a limit to how mean she could be. ;) Maybe I just should have waited till Valentine's day and tossed him in the tank. Wouldn't it be nice if all female maroons set that day aside every year to accept a mate with no fuss. :D

mine seemed to be in love from the first bodyslam

happy Valentines day
lol and....
Happy Valentines Day!

if you cant catch the female make sure she sees him in the container the trick is for her to tire out on trying to kill him so leaving him in 4 days would be good to let them get used to eachother

It's so interesting to hear a man's point of view on this -lol.
You say he has to tire her out and I say he has to earn her trust. That's kinda funny. ;)

How would I go about pairing maroons if I don't have an exisiting one? Can I just go to the LFS and buy a pair of juveniles, like I would with false percs?

I am asking because I'm setting up a specimen tank for my BTA and would like to put a maroon in it, but it would be really nice to be able to keep a pair if I could.

the absolute best thing to do is go to the LFS and find a tank with a group of juvenile tank raised maroon clowns and buy the smallest one and the biggest one and put them in the tank together and never seperate them

this method is for people who have a failed pair or a single clown

I managed to get a very aggressive single maroon clown to pair with a new little one by putting the first one in an in tank breeder enclosure for a day while the new guy settled into the anemone. Seems like after she saw the new little guy wasn't going to harm the nem she was okay about with it-- but she's still the "boss" no doubt. Male maroons seem to like their women big and tough.

probably already here somewhere, but what about 2 new fish?

i got a tiny GSM last night, it is in the QT tank right now. I will pick up a larger one friday. it will also go in the QT. I was thinking of eggcrating off the tank seperating the 2, or now using a specimen container, with slotted lid.

The QT tank only has a filter, sponge, heater and a couple pieces of PVC. after they get together, i will put them in the tank with the anenome.

two new ones if they were not together at the LFS should be introduced using the seperation method

I wish I could catch my female and try GSM's method.
I've tried 2 small males w/ no success so far, even in specimen container, and even after the female stops hitting container.
My current male is going on 2 weeks now, and each time I intro she almost kills it each time.
What a PITA!

Thanks

Thanks

I was really nervous about trying to find a mate for my 3"GSM.Thanks to this thread.I was able to feel confident about tryin it for myself. After a month of lookin for a small gsm I gave in and bought one an inch and a half long.I used GSM's method and so far so good. Both clowns have been together for 3 hours neither has been more than 12 inches for the anemone. The female has pecked at the little guy with an open mouth never leaving a mark and the little guy has been consitantly shaking it down for her. Thanks guys!

Well, after 2 weeks and 4 tries my snot head female killed the little guy.
Last week on my 3rd attempt she attacked so viciously the little male layed against the overflow and was so small it sucked him in and into the sump.
Miraculously it survived and looked good enough to try again.
I released him this morning, and she was being cool, but later heard a loud splash and now he's gone.
If she didn't sleep under her nem I'd catch her and maybe trade her in.
I'm soooooooo ticked!!!:(
