How to rid a reef tank with Majano anenomes?

I am going to build a majano zapper, thank you for the suggestion! Canarygirl, any update on your corals after the zapping? I think I will go for a 16v DC current version...

Things didn't get any worse for my corals than they were immediastely after the treatment. I definitely damaged my big sunset monti colony; it has a bunch of ugly dead spots but I feel that it will recover. The rest of my corals look fine.

At this point I think that the lingering cloudiness in my tank is due to having topped off my Ca Rx the same day and not having rinsed the new media well enough.

My lesson learned is that I should have turned off all the current while doing the treatment (like you do when using kalk), and tried to syphon out the "leavings" from the holes after zapping each majano. I think that would probably have prevented what happened to my coral. Do be ready with at least a 10% water change after doing the treatment, and maybe put in fresh carbon like I did.

Oh, I did find a couple of majanos that had retreated further into their holes than I reached with the electrodes and those guys are back out looking fat and sassy. (their time will come....)

Thank you, I will try my hands at building a zapper sometime next week. Thinking something that I can plug directly into the wall. :eek2: Any tip on parts or more details on the process would be greatly appreciated!!

I just removed about 20 manjos from a Live rock only tank, that is a holding tank while I build and set up my bigger tank. I had a pair of old kitchen scissors that were old and kind of dull. I turned off the return pump, and reached in with the scissors and "pinched" the manjo's under head by their stalks.

After holding the scissors around their stalks for a few sections, they seem to "release" their foot, almost their first defensive mechanism is to retract, and when they can't retract because your holding their neck with the scissors, they let their foot hold go. I was actually amazed that they manjos didn't simply cut in half, but even with pulling hard the manjos didnt cut in half and came out as a whole. I removed over 20-30 manjos this way two nights ago, but the hard part is getting rid of the remaining 10-15 manjos because they are situated either deep in a crag or somewhere else where I can't get the scissors.

ya Brian still going on!

catch up on the 'evolution' though (of this thread)
which involves getting out the car battery and hooking up a few wires here and there... then ask your buddy to turn it all on (the power) while your reaching down into the tank w/ the battery wires - trying to get that one elusive majano hiding behind that hard to reach spot.

then SHAZAM!
(all majanos are up in smoke!)

I gave up with manjo juice and kalk paste. I took out some rocks and scrubbed them and rinsed them off and they still came back. Then I got lucky the 2nd time around. My first copper band didn't make it. I had it in QT and a couple days later there were fires around house and I lost power. So I hooked up my generator and he wound up dying in my display.

I found another CB for sale from a local reefer. He said it took care of them in his tank. I noticed over the next week they were being eliminated slowly. A few weeks later I couldnรƒยขรขโ€šยฌรขโ€žยขt find but one or two. Now I canรƒยขรขโ€šยฌรขโ€žยขt find any. I am sure they are still a few. He did also eat my feather dusters but a small price to pay. He munches now and than on mysis but I want to find him some other meaty foods to keep him health

how to get rid of aptasia

how to get rid of aptasia

Other then removing the rock the only way to completely
rid your tank of aptasia is to **KEEP AT IT***....

I got completely rid of aptasia break out in a 90 gallon tank....
But..it took me a few weeks of going into the tank every night
and Joe's Juicing every single one that I seen. You have to use
a fair amount of it in each flower...don't be cheap!!! haha
You will notice them back the next day but they are NOT the ones you killed the night before - we usually just thinkkkk they are....

Just keep at it..nail them every night every single one you can see and you will find fewer and fewer until you finally kill the last one......

It is a challenge but it can be done... I did it.

IMPORTANT: You must look for..and FIND every single one.

I do not belive in CBB or Peppermints at all for taking care of
the problem...they can help control perhaps but they will NOT
get rid of the problem unless they are added very early stage...and even then...I dont believe they will get them all....
They multiply just too fast in my opinion.

I am not a pro...this is just my 2 cents.

Good luck,

Tim

Ok I get the voltage part on the zapper but dc adapters are rated for voltage and amps( usually miliamps). How much amperage(current) do you need to kill them?

the current stays between the electrodes! It does not affect the fish at all. I have zapped a couple of hermits (their shell) you have never seen em run so fast lol. And yea i thought about a patent . . . too late now huh!?
  Ok this sounds like a good way to get rid of these little basters, but should I get my wife to try it first!!!!............her hare is already curly.....LOL :p :p

Maybe not just academic.

Does it kill the whole animal, or just burn what it touches?

I'd like to try it on mushrooms in places where I can't scrape them off. If it just burns a spot, it will take a lot of zapping to take out a mushroom.

as previously posted . . . the apistasia is history after a one second jolt!!! lol Don't know about anything else. I suspect it cooks its primitive nervous system and the thing dies. It takes a day or 2 for it to all dissolve away . . . thus the warning to only do a few at a time.

I have heard imperators will help try some of the large angels but I've heard they are the best for that jobb.
