How to unattach a clam

I have a clam that I would like sell but it has anchored its foot down onto a piece of rock that can no way be removed. Any ideas on how to safely remove this clam.

If I cannot remove him that is ok, and I will keep him, but would like to move him out. Thanks.

Joe

if you can put some fingers under. feel if its just strings or his foot. you could cut the strings with a new razor... but dont cut his foot. Ive done it a few times no problem

someone griped at me earlier for doing this but i dont think he knew what he was talking about...I cut mine with a pocket knife , it was putting out threads ten minutes later.

yeah they try to re anchor them selves. I keep mine on the sand. Or let it anchor to a small rock in the sand then move the rock and clam to where ever i want

So I take it that if it is thread them I am ok, but if the foot is down I'm done.

Wondering if I could irritate it with a powerhead or shade it to make it loosen up and come off.

Thanks for the info guys.

it won't budge with a powerhead, J it'll only try to attach closer. Instead, why not use a pair of bone cutters or fragging shears and try to "crumble" around the rock it's on. If the liverock is porous and soft enough, it may come loose just enough to fit a razor underneath to cut the filaments. You'll know when you cut the foot. It's meaty, but try not to :D

Thanks for the info Merv. I'll see what I can do, may have to remove some rock to get at it.
