shouldn't be very loud seeing how its submerged in the tank.
Its rated at 11 watts.
I use one on my 120 sps tank along with two MJ mods that probably push 1200 gal each. I'll probably add another Tunze later on down the line....so I'd say NO to your last question and also a big on how you'd use it on a closed loop. Unless I'm thinking about a different pump.

im just a clueless!
tunzee was mentioned and I thought it was being referred to as a replacement pump. I have no experience with tunzee and I figured I could work it like a maxijet and just attach a pipe to it and it goes. I did not realize that it was meant as a replacement for the closed loop.

the tank is pre drilled and i want heavy flow to keep matter from decaying (and keeping it suspended) causing high nitrates since my tank is going to be filled with messy messy eaters.
The tank will not be bare bottom, as I will have about a 1-2 inch sand bed.
I will be using pvc to control where the closed loop returns.

I plan on running the pvc on the bottom of the tank with outlets shooting upward.

Probably 1.5"....even tho MDM says its ok to reduce the intake on the Dart its still going to reduce the life of the pump and for sure reduce the flow. The Dart has a 2" intake. You might want to look at the Amp Master pumps. I think you'll find the wattage is right and flow is going to be a bit better. Your plan is solid but IMO your going to be low on flow even if you could max out the Dart. The sand bed might be an issue if you want to keep detritus suspended.

about the same....dude, there will come a time when the sound of a pump wont matter or you'll have to change things up....like add one or maybe two more pumps. My Amp Master 3000 is dead silent and I'm sure it will out perform Darts GPH but I doubt it will be enough for what you want it to do. I'd think that your overflow\s and skimmer will make more noise then any pump you use, unless its an Iwaki, man! those things can make more noise then a bad fan belt on a truck. I take it (hope) your going to use a GOOD skimmer.

You know, The AM's have got a bad rap over the years. I've had mine for 5+ years and its never leaked a drop. I've replace the seal twice due to retart issues but that's the norm for pumps like these. The seal went south on me last year so I swapped it out with a Cuda, I'm ready to put it back inline. The cuda's a nice pump but the extra power isn't needed.

Yea........ I'm still looking for the dirt you moved from under your tank to my house! I think I'm having the same SPS issues.
I have a brand new one and a used one. The used one leaked a few drops when I first put it online, but has since stopped and hasn't leaked a drop in 6 months. They move a ton of water, don't use a large amount of power, and are very quiet, what more could you ask for
