How's my coral doing?

Here is a picture taken on the 24th of February.

Here's a picture taken today. It looks like it's melting.

Could overlighting the coral cause this? Is it possibly dying due to too much light?

Which one? The birdsnest or the chalice? If the chalice you should have it on the sandbed.

I just moved both of my chalices to the sandbed.

Water Parameters are as follows:

Salinity - 1.022
Calcium - 400
PH, Alk, Nitrates, Phosphates, Nitrites, Ammonia, and Magnesium are all tested by the Marine Biologist at my LFS. I will be going there tonight. But I just had them tested last Thursday and everything was good - no phosphates, nitrite, nitrate, PH was 8.2 or 8.3, and I can't remember what the Alk was but he said it was great.

Things can change very quickly in a small tank so I've been getting the tests done weekly. I'm gonna start doing it twice a week. The corals were a gift and it was hard to turn them down. The likelihood of the SPS making it is slim. I just want to give it my best shot. I'm doing weekly testing and 1g weekly water changes.

I drip acclimated the corals. And for a week they were all under only T-5 lighting and on Tuesday I received a PAR38 LED bulb (20K) with 7 3w LEDs and 80 degree optics. The problem is I can't mount it far enough away from the tank. I really need two and then I'll be able to toss the T-5 fixture all together.

Here are some pics. I moved some corals around like recommended above.

The only place I could attach the PAR38 temporarily:

Too Close?

FTS from yesterday:

This picture has things written in it. Please read and let me know what you think about placement. And what you think about the light where I have it. Right now I've turned it off but all the corals are still placed like they are in this picture:

Evening bump for some help.

I wasn't able to get to the fish store tonight to get the water tested. I have a refractometer and a Calcium test kit. My salinity is about 400 and my salinity is at 1.022

I'll have to wait until Sunday to get to the fish store and have everything else tested.

Any thoughts on the PAR38 placement? Too close?

how long has this tank been running? looks fairly new

The tank has been running for about three months. I know that the chances of the SPS surviving in a tank this new is fairly slim, but all the SPS frags were given to me as a gift and I want to give it my best shot.

Curious why are you running the SG at 1.022?

That's the salinity of the saltwater I get from my LFS. When I tested it with my refractometer the first time, I asked them the same question. The marine biologist on staff replied that all of their tanks are kept at the same salinity. Their livestock is gorgeous. And with weekly water changes and an ATO system hooked, I have no problems with it getting lower than that.

What are your thoughts about that. What's the benefit of higher specific gravity.

Your LFS has a marine biologist working for it? Must be hard up for work.

They have a sign on the door that says, "Marine Biologist on Staff"

That's really all I know. I didn't really ask to see any proof :lmao:

What he does in addition to owning the marine fish and coral store, I do not know.
