I have 180 pounds of curing Kaleini Live Rock that is hosting a green mantis shrimp. What is the best way to humanely remove the little bugger? I need to get him out ASAP so I can addd my clean-up with out fear of them becoming the dinner menu. I really don't want to spear him in his hole with a chopstick ect. , but I need him out of the tank in the next 3 days. Thanks in Advance.

i recently had one in my tank. Tried taking the rocks out, didnt work. finally went for the trap with some shrimp in it. It worked, but took a few days. so you will have to be patient.

The baited-bottle-traps definately seem to be the most humane. Most other methods called for spearing or using freshwater/club-soda to the detriment of the whole rock.

Its been 3 days... did you get him? I caught mine yesterday and I am so excited I have been telling everyone my new trick. The bottle trap did absolutely nothing for me. Sounds like you have spotted his hole... Try baiting one end of a long plastic hose and placing it directly over the hole. Wait until he starts to go in for the bait and suck from the other end. Have a bucket ready, ours was sipohned right through. Takes patience holding the opening over his hole, but much less patience than leaving a trap for two days. We siphoned by mouth, carefully not to get a taste!

I tried the soda water dip...no luck. I tried the baited bottle trick...no luck. I tried the Hypersalinity then the Hyposalinity tricks but he refused to vacate the premises. I finally go him out today, but it was not pretty and he is no longer with us. I really, really didn't want to go to the extreme measure that I had to, but I have a clean-up crew going into the tank tomorrow and I didn't want to see them killed. BTW he was an UGLY little thing about 1.5" long with a green head and white body.
