Hurricane Tank Prep

Just wanted to post a heads up that with the incoming hurricane, while it probably wont be very bad and mostly rain, theres a good chance of your power getting knocked out for a little bit of time. I found some relatively cheap bubblers at Bass Pro Shops that run on D batteries just in case and have a batch of water mixed up ready for a change if necessary. I also know where to get any extra items I might need in the case of emergency.

Now is a good time before it hits to secure anything you might need, and I want to say I hope all of you as well as your tanks weather the storm safely!
 
I have a turtle from the pond area at Lowes that runs forever on 2 AA bateries. He is a sea turtle with adjustable flippers, so he really moves some water lol.
 
haha now that has to be cute to see. i went and got a battery operated air pump since my old one died a few months ago. i'm ready :) can't wait just to enjoy watching the storm (love this kind of stuff!) as long as power doesn't go out long i'm happy
 
I had the airpump once. It was so loud you just want to let it all go to shut the pump up. My turttle is silent.
 
yep i cleaned up the carb and dumped out the 4yr old gas out of the generator last night and is purring nicely after the new gas so i am ready.
 
you mean large rain storm :P I doubt it will live up to the hype.....even still.......I got my tanks prepped at the start of the season, so I'm ready to rock!!! I was out of town in 04 and 05, so I missed the fun stuff. I was in Iraq though, so I was having fun times of my own
 
Well it was looking a lot stronger when I posted this yesterday. I guess the storm just decide to be more humble, something I don't think Juice could manage the way he always seems to brag about Iraq in every thread not about Iraq. Oh well.
 
gosh....I didn't think that was bragging at all. Iraq was a life changing experience for me. Three years later it is still in the front of my mind and haunting my dreams. I'm sorry if my mentioning it offends you, but there's absolutely no reason for you to be nasty to me. I don't recall doing anything to you......ever......or making nasty comments about you....ever
 
I'm not being nasty, I'm sorry you see it that way. Its just that you sure seem to mention Iraq a lot on REEF central. And between your shennanigan posts stirring up trouble with the local stores as well as some racist stuff in your myspace, I'm sorry but I find it distasteful. I'm sure there are many forums and support groups out there who would love to talk with you about your experiences, but I was hoping to keep this thread more about tanks and hurricane prep - which if you look at all the damage that has been done on the coast I hope a lot of people were able to get their tanks prepped in time. We're very fortunate it didn't hit very hard here in Orlando.

So trying to keep this most more on track with the themes of reefs, did everyone's tank hold up okay?

Wow, that was harsh. He shared that he "missed out" on the hurricanes of 04 & 05 because he was in Iraq, oh no!!

You stop your bragging at once mister!

I didn't really think anything was going to happen. I went through Jeane without even having the power flicker.

This time I have a power line down on the ground in my back yard and I have been without power for about 24 hours. I am not even supposed to go out into the back yard.

I didn't make any preparations but my cheap Coleman generator started on the first pull, despite the fact that it hasn't been run in two years. My expensive Yamaha won't start so my neighbors will just have to deal with the noise I guess.

It just goes to show that you can never tell what is going to happen.
 
I agree...we're getting pummeled out here in Geneva (very close to Brevard). An 80' tree came down from our neighbors yard and took out the back fence, crushed the pool deck, probably damaged the pool and filter system, not far from the rear of our house. We knew something bad happened when we heard a huge crash and the house actually shook. Plus, we can't even get outside to see how much other damage we have...looks like our shed may have been damaged as well. Wow, you don't realize how big those trees are when they're towering up to the sky until they're laying across your backyard! Our yard is completely flooded. Luckily, the power is on right now, but has been off and on all night. I bet the winds are whipping up close to 50 mph out there as trees are bent and their branches brushing the ground. This is even more damage than we had with the bad three a few years back...and it looks like the new track is going to double it back directly over us within the next 24 hours (we're right in the corner of Seminole County near where Volusia and Brevard come together. Keep your fingers crossed for us...there are about 15 more of those trees still standing! Sheesh. Paul, you are your family and all the others who are being affected by this are in my thoughts and prayers...stay safe!
 
Paul my thoughts go out to you and your family as well.

Marcye if you need any help cleaning up the backyard when its clear to do so let me know and I'd be happy to do some grunt work to help you out. When it rains it pours, no pun intended unfortunately :( If there is anything else I can do please please let me know. If your power is out for too long you're always welcome at my home. Good luck weathering out the rest of the storm and fingers crossed for everyone who is in the new path of the storm - even if we dont see eye to eye on things.
