Hybrid Clowns

I am looking for any and all hybrid clown pics. I've been trying to find one in particular of an ocellaris or true perc and a maroon cross, but I think that all hybrids look cool. Post away!

There have been pics posted. Ocellaris and true percs have a lot of misbaring problems if I am not mistaken. I am wondering what a black ocellaris and an orange one would produce.

I believe a cross between a black and an orange ocellaris produces a mix of about 50% of each. I am a little board now so I will look for those hybrid pictures.

Well, RC dumped all the pics from the old posts.

You can try PMing jfrank100 for pics of his OCLxGSM offspring.

Here's a pic from him (and all the credit for it)

#$@^%$@&@$ OK let me see if I can upload it to my gallery... BBS

Well, lets try this

Geez...I ain't got this new pic posting thing down yet. Way too small!

Hey Chesley!!!! ya hybrid are pretty cool, but do they have the same breeding problems, like a mule-from a horse and a donkey??
hey David L. what kind of anemone or coral is in that pic w/ the GSM hybrid clowns????never seen anything like that, almost looks fake!!

so does any1 know the answer the my Q??? do they have the same breeding problems, like a mule-from a horse and a donkey??

I would assume that they do, but only because all hybrids that I know of are like that with the exception of wolf-dog. Perhaps if they are closely related there aren't those problems.

What do you mean by breeding problems? If you're wondering if the hybrid offspring will be sterile (like a mule), then I believe the answer is no - they will be fertile and capable of producing offspring of their own. There are a few "species" of clownfish that are thought to be hybrids themselves. IIRC, Wilkerson's clownfish book has a few paragraphs or so stating that clownfish hybrids are fertile. I'll have to try to find the page(s) after work. Hope this answers your ?.

In general with hybrids a certain percentage of males will come out sterile, I don't know if this is true with salt water fish since they're able to change their sex at will...

In fresh water fish for example blood parrots are sterile as well as flower horn...

I think the main question is because ocellaris clowns are Amphiprion and GSM clowns are Premnas.

Well it's obviously different from genus to genus but in fresh water convict cichlids will mate with just about anything including fish up to 8 times their size. I'm sure it's entirely possible so long as aggression issue's from mating don't kill one or the other.
