I think the main question is because ocellaris clowns are Amphiprion and GSM clowns are Premnas.
DLCKWOOD:p
Officially yes,but I am positive that maroons belong not only to the genus Amphiprion but also to the same species complex as ocellaris/percula.They are very similar in colour, pattern and shape. They all keep the oscillating swimming as adults.Just saw the hybrids at IMAC and they are perfect intermediates between both parent stocks.
I know many people will disagree but morphological taxonomy,i.e.establishing the relationship between species due to the presence or absence of some morphological trait(the cheek spine,in this case)is largely subjective and therefore subject to errors.
When Amphiprion will be reviewed using modern objective taxonomic tools,I bet that IÃ"šÃ‚´ll be proven to be right.

In general with hybrids a certain percentage of males will come out sterile, I don't know if this is true with salt water fish since they're able to change their sex at will...
fwiw: It is not a trait of all saltwater fish and there is little conclusive evidence to support a female to male change of clowns.

During her presentation at the WAMAS symposium Dr. Fautin mentioned an indepth study being carried out at the U of Kansas to prove your point. :)

While not quite what you were looking for this is a hybrid between sandaracinos and perideraion.

I saw this hybrid once at a WS that only deals with WC fish. Very cool.

Really?so IÃ"šÃ‚´m no nuts after all!
Marina, could you tell more?Something published or links? What is WAMAS?

As fare as I know, the only reason the Maroons were placed in there own genus was because of the cheek spine, which made them unique from other clownfish.

Taxonomy is all about grouping like species.

How about an onyx percula crossed with the hybrid of a normal percula and an ocellaris? Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m sure someone has tried it.

That would be like mixing an AKC registered bulldog with a bulldog with no papers..

Onyx clowns are perculas..and you want to see a percula with pretty much another pecula??..
