Is this a hybrid or yellow scopas variant?

Thanks!

That is a varient. Varient is when there is a change in color without having another species genes within the fish. Not the best definition. A hybrid would be if a scopas interbred with rostratum. Regards, Tim

Ive never seen one that was proven to be a true hybrid; there are a lot of aberrant forms of scopas out there. Any particular reason you specifically want a hybrid, rather than one of the odd color morphs?

so how could I tell in the future? I'm looking for a hybrid yellow/scopas and not a variant.

thanks!

Hey Hormi. Got the great news from Sedar last night!!! So pumped to see what the eel looks like. Anyway not to steal the thread. Do you agree that is a varient? Who cares about whether it is a varient or hybrid. All that matters if you like what the fish looks like. Regards, Tim

true... i wish you could get several pics of a fish online so you could tell what color phase/mood the fish is in.

hmm.

Thanks!

Good stuff! Sent you a PM, just to try and keep this thread on track.

Chrissreef, most of the time, the 'good' aberrants cost a decent chunk of cash; if the place youre buying from is any kind of decent, you should be able to request more photos from them. If it were me buying it, Id want to do some extra inspections before plunking down my cash too.
