Hydnopora question

Hello all, so I recently bought my first coral, a hydnopora. I didn't know much about it but my lfs guy said it was a sps coral that is decently hardy. It doesn't quite match pictures I looked up of it though. I was wondering what I need to look out for with it and if it even really is hydnopora. I couldn't seem to find much info on it. Thanks!

Just make sure you leave plenty of space around it since it's a very aggressive coral and not good with its neighbors. But yes it is a fairly hardy sps

It is a branching hydno quite a nice coral, as for hardiness some cant kill em where others cant keep em.... They are very aggressive and will kill anything they touch but i love mine

Don't put it in your tank, see if you can return for exchange.
If not, it must be isolated on it's own rock. It will spread and kill other SPS

So why does this coral have such a fearsome reputation for stinging?

I have had an ORA neon green on the frag rack for about 3 months and it's doing fine and growing. It was touching a monti cap for a while with no damage to either. Do they have long tentacles like a favia or chalice?

Or are the stingers the short "furry" little tentacles I see extended on a regular basis? Do they have to be actually touching another coral to do damage, or can they extend their reach? Propelled by current? How, when and why do they sting?

mine stings the sinularia on the left and the pavona on the right it has even killed off a leptastrea, basically anything it touches. are you sure yours is a hydno cause there are a couple of corals that look similar but are not as aggressive ie paraclavarina sp.....

Thanks. So yours do their damage at a distance with long tentacles? Or is this in a crowded space and they're actually touching one another?
