Hydor Flo in a Nano? Anyone use one? 12 Gallon AquaPod

I am curious to know if anyone uses a Hydor Flo in their nano tank?

I have a 12 gallon aquapod and am getting some red algae that grows on one side due to a lack of flow. I do have the Maxi-Jet 900 pump upgrade.

Anyone recommend a Hydor Flo? Or should I just shorten the stock tubes??

I use the Hydro-Flo.
It works great for me in my 12 gal aquapod.

Does it kick around the sand a lot??? Curious to know what to expect. Got any pics of your tank?

I had one, but ended up putting it in my 46g at the house. I loved the random flow, but it blew all the sand from the right front corner. I was down to the glass. I also have the MJ900. I tried using a PVC 45° elbow to have it aimed at the left front corner, but I thought it stuck out like a turd in a punchbowl!

My suggestion would be to buy it, and if you don't like it, take it off. I think it depends on your rockwork on what it will do.

I am having the same trouble in my 29 gallon bio cube with cyano building up in the far right corner of the tank. Someone had suggested adding a water pump to increase circulation, but I like the clean look of having no equipment in the tank. There is a similar thread going on now with the same question, they advised me that I should try some phosban and that should take care of the cyano. Let me know how the flow diverter works in your tank, if it works well I will get one.

I too was told to use phos-ban. I actually purchased it but then I tried to move my water flow and most of the red cleared up. That is why I think flow may be a big part of this issue.

I may still try the phos-ban soon though.

I have been trying to get rid of red slime in my 12g nano for the last couple of months by changing flow direction and strength. I did the maxi900 upgrade last week....much better flow...still red slime. Finally went to the LFS and was told that RedSlime Control from Blue Life USA was getting great results. Got some and dosed the tank today...i'll keep everyone posted on the results.

Phosban is great for removing phosphates, which lead to hair algea, but red slime is actually a cyano bacteria...so it needs an anti bacterial agent.

Macperry, is what you dosed an anti bacterial agent? Aren't the bacteria in our tank what drive the nitrogen cycle?

saltman: When you did the mj900 pump upgrade, did you just drop it in and hook it up, or did you use the suction cups, filter intake adapter,....etc

Sorry I don't have pictures. I put a piece of rock in the front corner and it seems to be fine with little sand movement except for the initial startup.

The MJ900 just dropped in. I think I just took the old pump out and hooked up the stock plastic tubing from the pump to the outlet hole.

Dropped right in.

i think you should be ok ..... my sand never moves but i have 35lb. LR in a 20 g

I have purchased the hydroflow for my 24gNano. I am having the hardest time installing this on. I did get the MaxiJet upgrade. Someone please help me with this.
