Hydra 52 and SPS

Hi,

Looking for some feedback on peoples experience with the Hydra 52 and growing SPS. Looking at 2 of these for the new 120, never had LEDs before.

THX

Not the 52's but a buddy of mine is running the Hydra's over his 300 DD and he is getting some good growth and color from is sps. I'm letting him be my guinea pig before I make the plunge. My buddy is really happy with his Hydra's.

I have had 3 52s above my 150 gal for 3 months and get really nice growth and deep color in my SPS dominant tank. I noticed that the color got deeper too as I cranked up the UV/Violet/red/green to 100%. Kept the whites at 75%. Just ramp everything up slowly over the course of a couple of months.

You'll be really happy with them.

wow those are some serious intensities, i just upgraded my sols to hydras; had to turn down the whites, uv/violet/red/green from 30 to 15 after a colony of red digi RTN'd and a sunset milli frag.

yea very high numbers, I cant go above 30% on whites and uv and red/green and 50 on blues without frying the tank. 62g with 2 hydras

Yeah I've got them cranked up pretty high but my PAR isn't off the charts or anything. PAR meter says that my SPS at the top of the tank, 6-8 inches below the surface is only 550. Given the Apogee error rate with LEDs thats 600 at the very most that they're getting. Nothing close to the amount of PAR they get in the wild. I got almost the same PAR with my 6 bulb ATI Sunpower so I think all my sticks were used to it. Never lost any color and I love the control you get with LEDs. I read someone say in the latest LED bashing thread that they've never seen a pink lemonade yellow under LEDs. Mines *bright* yellow and pink. :-D

The yellow is a true representation under the blues.

you know what you're right. i'm going off intensities and not actual par values. I need to somehow get my hands on a PAR meter. it's funny tho, i'm still holding a nice very yellow base pink polyp pink lemonade aswell under these lights. i don't have the actual pic of mine but it looks exactly like it's colony:

oh and @ robert_lopez - damn!

There are a few LFS around here that rent PAR meters, thats how I got my measurements. Might want to check around.
