Hydra 52 Lights Arrived!

Can I have the dimensions of your tank? Does the light cover the tank fully? Thanks.

48x24x30

Good question, tough to tell because of the way the rocks are setup and the access holes on top are placed closer to the front. If you hung them from a central location with a slightly larger rail I would think so. I left some shadows in the back 1/3 of the tank, especially at a higher elevation. But overall the coverage looks good.

Also, the 50 degree optics seem like complete overkill unless you really want to fry things on the sand. 80 feels perfect unless running more lights.

Ahh, your tank is 48" long. I believe AI advertised the spread at 36x36" so if it covers a 48" length with some shadows, that's not bad at all. Yeah, 50 degree optics would probably fry a lot of coral!

Just remembered you have a pair of them. Hmm, I would of thought a pair of AI Hydra 52's would cover a 48" tank well. Your height is on the taller side though.

Area covered.

Area covered.

Yeah they show 36 x 36 at full depth, but at a height of 24" that back peak doesn't get as much light, while the front right plateau gets too much. I may move some rocks around later once cured. It really is more a landscaping issue on my end, the lights seem to get everything fine.

Jealous! I've got a couple Hydra 52's sitting under the tree all wrapped up. She wouldn't even let me see the box before wrapping them up! Oh well, at least I have some extra motivation to get up at the crack of dawn on X-mas day with the kids now :-)

I only have two 52's as well but for a 60x24x24 tank. The guys at AI said this should be enough as long as I hang them about 10-12" off the water line. I have a two-island setup so I'm thinking it should work OK. We'll see...

Wow.

Sir, impressive patience!

Talk about undo stress and mental torture for the poor husband. Just think, you only have 20 days until you can unwrap your shinny new Hydra 52's.

Hang in there, time will pass by fast for you,
Randy

Yes?

Yes?

If the rocks were removed and the lights centered it would come close at a high mount point.

Yes, I think so.

Yes, I think so.

Do you notice any of the "disco" light effect at the bottom of the tank?

That's the first thing my daughter said. I do have a good ripple effect on the water. Grabbing a video. Is that more water shimmer, or led disco effect?

Tried to create a warmer setting,

Both vids at around 70% power if not less, custom led ratios.
