Hyper perc? HELP PLEASE!

hey all
I just got my first clown, I have a 40g reef tank with one yellow tail blue damsel a diamond goby a royal gamma and a tide pool sculpin...I just added my percula clown a day and a half ago, he frantically swims from one side of the tank to the other non stop. He's all over the place and I haven't seen him mellow out even once...also, he hasn't eaten since I put him in I tried feeding frozen brine frozen mysis flake and pellet, he has yet to take anything, is something wrong with my perc??? Please help, thanks all!!!
 
Give him time to settle down. When I first got my black ocellaris pair they swam from one side of the tank to the other but they have since settled down since finding my bubble anemone.
 
hmm ok I'll see what happens! I just really liked the maroon also and it made me wonder if I shoulda maybe got him instead...my royal gramma is new also and not coming out of the rocks much :( I don't have an annenome, not sure if my PCs could support it do you think they could?? All I have as far as coral are some zoo's some yellow polyps some mushrooms and a hammer coral...
 
Well how large is your aquarium, how many power compacts do you have, what is the wattage, and what is your filtration like? You dont need an anemone for the clownfish.
 
my tank is 40g and I have a PC 50/50 fixture 96w I know that's not huge but a lfs that was moving sold me the used fixture for $25 and put a new bulb in it for me...I know I don't need one but I would like one do you think this would sustain a bubble tip or any other sustable nem?
 
Not enough to sustain hosting anemones for the long haul. If your looking to keep anemones look to upgrading your light fixture
 
Well what do you want to keep? Do you want to keep corals and the bubble anemone or just the anemone? If you want to keep corals also what kind of corals do you want to keep?
 
i have a few corals in there now, i have some yellow polyps and some zoo's that i put in about a week ago, there are a few mushroms, ive got a green mushroom that is rahter large, a green stripe mushroom, and a few hairy mushrooms, and then i have a hammer coral with one good sized plum at the top of the stock with a lot of heads, and it looks like there are other tiny "branchs" growing on it, i also have a small frog spawn, i dont really want sps cause i dont have to buy MHs and and im currently not running a skimmer until november when i upgrade tanks...i basically just want some lps, some mushrooms and zoo'z, along with a nem if i could do it, but i can hold off on the nem if i have to...

You really think so with only 96 watts of pc lighting? The corals you have are fine under your lighting scheme but if you want to keep a bubble anemone than I would look into getting at least another 96 watt bulb fixture for you aquarium. As for the LTA it is imo that they require stronger lighting to indeed thrive. Im sure their are cases where individuals keep them under low lighting and get them to live but I wouldn't personally be comfortable housing a LTA, or even a BTA under your current lighting. That is just my opinion.
 
IME the clowns are stressed and that is why they are hyper. Make sure your parameters are in check (and that you do water changes frequently enough) and put your lights on a timer if they aren't already so the clowns get used to a cycle. Itwill also really help if you can build up to full strength lighting either with a dimmer or by having actinics come on like 30 min before the white light so they can slowly wake up.
 
ive heard of many people having bta's with that amount of light. not so sure of the LTA, but i head some stories of that also.
 
Alright I'll take all that into consideration he's seemed to calm down quite about, still swims about the tank all day and later in the day and through the night he hangs out next to my hammer coral, but I still haven't seen him eat...I'm feeding frozen brine frozen mysis I've also tried pellet and flake any ideas on this??

I wouldn't recommend either anemone for a 40 with a 96 watt 50/50. That just isn't going to be enough light long term for them. There is a small chance a BTA will survive (( survive, but not thrive )) with that light. Really don't see an LTA (( which is sand dwelling )) working at all.
 
Update yo!! He's eating and Ive decided he's just a spaz...he doesn't stop swimming oh well, different strokes for different folks...at least he looks cool
