Hyposalinity works great for Ick treatment

hey steve hows it going..??

the silver bullet is a great way of curbing ich outbreaks....

fish can handle drops in SG but NOT a rapid increase..its wise to always dbl check the SG after acclimation before introducing fish....

Hi Steve,

I a bit not clear on the definition of fish only tank. I do have livesand & LR in my fish only tank. Would having livesand & LR dis-qualify my tank being fish only tank? If I drop SG down to 1.009, will it turn my livesand & LR into deadsand deadrock?

;) yup...pods and other stuff would not make it through that...not so sure on the bacteria though??

I don't generally recommend any treatments be undertaken in display aquaria. Worms, crustaceans, etc. that come with liverock and sand will all suffer and die in a hyposaline environment.

30 days minimum with an additional 14 days to make sure fish is OK.

Running hypo is a running a fine line. If its too low it will kill the fish, too high and the Ich lives on. Evaporation will drive your readings nuts trying to keep it right.

Just run a QT and use copper for 30 days with another two weeks copper free to observe. Check copper levels everyday and adjust as needed.

If you have it in your show tank you may want to try No Sick Fish. $57.00 for a small bottle, but it seems to work.

QT and take it slow is the only way to avoid losing livestock.

Totally agree with you on this. It has only been a few days and I am already getting tired of constant water adjustment to maintain the reading at 1.009. Hyposalinity not only works but "Too much" works. I would give the copper a try if I have ICK next time.
