I’m sorry my Purple Friend…

Louie the Purple Tang
March 2002 - December 2006

This morning I added my half sheet of Nori, much to the excitement of Louie, my Purple Tang. It had been a twice a day ritual for the past 4 years. When I awoke this afternoon, I found him stuck to one of the power heads. Apparently, and the Fire Shrimp isn’t talking, the strainer guard had fallen off. My guess was Louie was chasing a piece of Nori, as he always did, and got too close to a pair of MP1200's in the corner.

I got Louie in March 2002 when we lived in Springfield, Missouri and drove 6 hours round trip to St. Louis to bring him home. Hence the name. The poor guy has been through a lot, including a move to Wisconsin. He was only a month or two away from calling the 240g his new home.

If anyone would have said that I’d get teary eyed for a fish, I would have said they were crazy. So, as only other Reefers can understand, our home is in a state of morning.

Hewy & Dewy will shurley miss Loui.

tom he looks great mine is soo small and still very dark
cant wait till he gets bigger with the sailfin

I couldn't even flush him. Wrapped him up nice in a paper towel and layed him in the trash can. I thought a back yard buried was a bit extreme....

Thanks Tom you Putz! A friend of mine just looked over my shoulder here at work and wondered why I was teary looking at a pic of your fish!

Great pic of Donald!

I felt so bad when my 37gal tank was nuked by a kalk overdose.
I chose to flush my undulated trigger down the toilet, & he got stuck. Had to break out the plunger to get the poor guy down.

A loss is a loss. Wether its a fish, a ferret, or a friend. Sorry to hear about your loss. (on the bright side now you can get another fish)

I can hardly believe that your tang died because of a MJ1200 sucking him in, I think you fish died of some other cause and ended up sticking to your powerhead. Sorry for your loss

i saw my freind brians huge lawnmower stuck to a powerhead. Even had a prefilter on the thing, still alive last I saw but very little color left and swimming slow. Sm guy lost a rose bta to sm powerhead after prefilter fell off. (try cleanin' that one up) Sm guy had 3 different turbo snails stuck to sm powerhead at sm time!
-Part of the reason I don't have a big powerhead in my tank.

The trigger was stuck in the trap of the toilet. I couldn't see the little guy, but the water was going down slow. I can only imagine the triggers were straight out keeping him from making the bend.

I have to get that "All drains lead to the ocean." Nemo phrase from my head.
