So I decided against waiting for the reef ready 135 I was going to get from my buddy and I picked up a 180gReef Ready acrylic tank with a 50g acrylic sump tonight from Ron... Thanks again... I've already outgrown my little 40g after just a short time=).....Pics to come soon(unfortunately I have it sitting in my front room backwards right now so I can access the sump otherwise I'd have taken pictures..The Tank will be Highly SPS dominated...Dan

Outgrown a 40 gal in a week? I give the 180 2 months...tops. Can anyone say 450? J/K
Congrats!!! I knew you wouldn't be able to wait! :D

Thanks everyone I'm really excited about it...When I get my house i'm planning on a HUGE in wall with a fish room and the whole shebang....I'm taking the back off the stand right now to get the sump out to clean it and modify it for a refugium..

If you go barebottom, it might make life a lot easier if you had sand in your sump or if you plumb an RDSB. Some of the barebottom dudes have had param swings that took out SPS.

Kevin....Ahhh good point that bring me on to the next point..The sump works out to 59.8gallons so we'll call it a 60g about 1/3 of the sump will be a refugium with a dsb=)Yeah I've decided and got th go ahead from my girl to go barebottom on it..

Congrats Dan! (how come I feel my 90 will soon be one of the smallest tanks here? almost a nano, LOL). Pictures please! If only I could convince someone to get a bigger tank too (or I can convert my 135 gallon, LOL).

yeah it started out a few weeks ago as I was going to set up a 20gfreshwater then my neighbor gave me a good deal on the 40g breeder and stand(which will be for sale soon also)then I came across the 135 and stand for free and it was in such good condition I convinced my girl into setting it up freshwater she wanted Blue Dolphin cichlids....Well then I convinced her the 40g reef is toooo small(yeah after only a week)..I alked her into letting me trade the 135 for a reef ready one..then that didnt happen I talked her into letting me get the 180yesterday while she was taking a nap half asleep=)Subliminal messages work LOLOLOL

LOL, my 135 is a peninsula style tank. Only thing it has some rare South American Angel fish and discus in it. (I have red back angels that are f1 and were bred in Germany that I got from the ACA when they were in town). It's supposed to be planted but that has been going south due to something eating the plants :(. The tank is not reef ready though and would need to be drilled. It's long shape would be great to have a sump in though. :). I could possibly vent a chiller to the roof or use a t5 fixture on it. OHHHH, someone stop me, I'm still working on the 90! plot...think...plan...(I have 2 freshwater and 2 saltwater tanks :)).

Congrats on the new tank. Good idea to go with a bare bottom for acrylic. I have recently screwed up my front viewing pane due to sand getting stuck on the cleaning pad of the magnet. Good luck with the setup.

tcoral those are beautiful angels...

back- yeah I went barebottom with my last 90g sps tank and loved it plus I had some insane turnover in that tank...When i get some money I'm planning on buying some tunze's again...Kicking myself now that I sold the two i had with controllers when i got out of the hobby last time..

I just got home I'm workin gon the sump right now I need to partion it off for a fuge it was setup kinda weird before with the partions for the fuge not going all the way to the bottom...Oh and Ron (thanks again hooked me up with a mag 9.5 for a return pump.. Ok time to start scrubbing coraline on the sump and my old *** euroreef

If I were to take the plunge in converting that tank, who is the person that could drill it? It's a very thick glass. It's a PITA that only the narrow side I can get the plumbing to, so drilling it would be better (If I were to do it :)).

Any glass shop should be able to drill it I learned that pretty much once the tank is assembled though they can only drill up and down not the sides because they cant keep the bit lubricated..At least that is what the guy that is building Rons 225 told me today..\

EYECANDY...
Ok so here's pics of the sump I just cleaned it and amazingly got it all clean with out even using any vinegar...I'm sealing up the hole in the left side though(return pump) and will be running the mag9.5 internally so I can hopefully fit my 20g acrylic tank in the stand next to it for kalk autotopoff...Ok gotta go remodel the sump for the fuge..yeah I know the towel is hella gay it's my ex wifes..Oh yeah the bottom of the sump isnt dirty the previous owner just never took off the paper on the bottom of the acrylic..The sump works ou to be 59.8gallons.
