did anyone know that melafix is nothing more than a small percetage of tee tree oil (can be bought by itself at the drug store for about 6$ per oz.) I have some koi that came in looking bad and a guy at my lfs was nice enough to pass that info on to me:D melafix only has 1% melaleuca oil (tee tree oil) and the rest is saltwater. So before you buy melafix and waste your money........;)

Hmm any idea how much to does if I were to buy that? The concentration would be higher so whats a good amount to use?

well an 8oz bottle of melafix has 1%teatree oil and treats 480 gallons. so...you would need .08 oz of tea tree oil with 7.2 oz of salt water to make up the strength melafix has. I am using it on my koi pond right now. Its 10000 gallons so I put 1.5 oz full strength in there. It works and very well at that. ;)

well Its actually for my koi pond. The treatment has worked well and am performing a water change of 25% . I know it works well on salwater fish but I would be leary about dumping it in my sps system. A qt tank would be better. Man it really works though. Regenerates fins and gets rid of fungus well.;)
