I dont get it

Ive read tons of posts on here about sandstorms when starting their tanks. I started mine finally last night. Got my LR in, only about 60 lbs or so in a 55 gallon. Turned on my HOB filter, and turned on my excalibur skimmer... Stirred up the sand just to see what would happen..

1 Hour later, I could tell it was going away fast. So I put my seio620 in, pointed it down at the sand from the top corner.... Didnt do much. This morning the tank is perfectly clear.

Does LR really help settling the sand THAT much??? My skimmer is pulling out some light tanish color foam, but that it.

The addition of liverock will weigh some down. It can also depend on the type of sand used, considering the grain sizes.

It isnt the rock itself but it is bacteria in and on the rock that will weigh the sand down as it colonizs on it.

lol I also dont get why this posted 2 times??? I clicked it once. Only one showed up, then like an hour later i saw this one.

As for my grain size, its got to be the smallest possible.

Isnt the sand you got from an established tank? It's not new correct? If so this will help it fall faster because the light stuff that creates the sandstorm has more than likely gone away through filtration, skimmer or something like that.

yeah mine went down pretty fast too, the next day it was perfectly clear. I used livesand though, so i think the bacteria in there probally helped. Here is a pic of how clear my water was the next day, i think the HOB filter helped pull out all the sand in the water too.
