I finished one...

Here's a reflector I made from 0.020" specular aluminum. It's not perfect, but I think it will be 100% functional. I used 1/8" rivets, but I think even smaller rivets would work. Tomorrow I will mount the socket and holder.
Here's the pattern cut out and taped to the metal.

Mike,

Very nice looking. I understand that the placement of the bulb is very important for the reflector to maxium light and if the bulb is off just a little it does not work as well. Do you know the offsets to mount the bulb to maxium your reflector?

Thanks,
Chris

Yes.

The firing center of the bulb needs to be centered in the reflector. That distance varies by bulb.

So you will have some way to move the bulb horizontally in the reflector? How about the vertical aligment does it matter?

The bulb hole will be in highest point of the bottom side section. (The section nearest the scissors in the picture.) As long as the bulb is parallel with the top of the reflector and centered all is well. The mogul socket bracket will have horizontal adjustment.

Thanks Ted. I'll try almost anything once.

One more thing...I bent the lowest sections outward so I can mount them to some angle aluminum I will be building my light rack with.

Mike,

Thanks for explaining how you are going to mount the bulbs. I do admire the your handy work. Again it looks great!!!

Keep it up.

Cheers,
Chris

Looking real good Mike. I just found a place to purchase my aluminum locally for my frame - that will be my next build. This stuff is soooo much fun! I'm real interested in your light mounting. I've seen a few different designs and all are functional and different, as are the frames.

I did a little "dinner table engineering" and worked on an adjustable socket assembly for the reflector. I need to replace the bolts with shorter ones, and I'll still have plenty of adjustability.

Shiny - very nicely made. Did you make your own bracket for the mogul socket, the bracket that keeps everything in place? Great build Mike - looks really nice.

Aren't we all - LOL? I'm watching Mikes build VERY closely and can't wait to see it in person. Getting lots of ideas for my 280 which by the way will start next month - Wheeeeeee. Mike, what would you put the DIY work percentage wise for your build? 50 - 75% and I know you have a lot still to come?
