I give up...email set-up

I am a computer retard; let me just get that out there.

Apex is hard-wired using ethernet cable. I have a green and yellow light at the ethernet terminal on the Apex. Neptune helped me get an IP. My IP on the Apex is 10.0.0.3

I could (for an hour or two while testing) access my Apex by typing that IP address into the address bar.

Router is a Netgear WNR2000 Wireless N Router. Port 2 (Apex) is steady flashing. My modem is a Motorola and the "ethernet" and "activity" light a alternating flashing all the time.

My email/internet is with Bellsouth, who is now AT&T.

I have tried a dozen possible SMTP server and port combinations. I've been studying the unofficial guide for hours and I just give up. Ive tried the cmd function to send an email test and I get nothing.

I even tried to get a GMX email set up but somethign must be wrong on their end. It tells me I'm set-up, but gives me an error message when I try to log in.

HELP!

I went through the same thing... after trying a bunch of ports that supposedly "work" with AT&T, I gave up. GMX mail works beautifully. My advice would be to send them a support email, and don't pull your hair out... just wait until your GMX account is active and it'll be easy.

LOL... Me too. I have ATT and ended up using GMX as well. Not sure why it didnt work through ATT as I tried their SMTP servers, my SMTP servers at my office, hotmail etc. I'm in the IT business and even my web admin hit the preverbial wall with it. A GMX address solved it. The nice thing is that every email that goes to my GMX accound (which is only my Apex) gets forwarded on to my relavant email addresses as well as my cel phones in text form. GMX makes things much easier!

I found that after having a hard time setting up email notifications with GMX, I rebooted the system and it has been working just fine.

Is there a setting in GMX to forward to your cell phone and other email addresses, or are you just entering those into the APEX as the 'To' and 'Alt'?

You can do it either way. If you only have a primary and a single forwarding address, just put it in the Apex in the 'Alt' address field. If you have more, then setup forwarding rules in GMX and put them there.
