I hate my clown

whenever I put my hands in the tank to clean or do any other maintenance on the end of the tank that my clownfish and anemone reside in, the clown attacks me relentlessly. I hate this, I am afraid his wild darts will result in him jumping the tank or hurting himself, and quite frankly his bites hurt which is startling and has caused me to drop things in tank etc.

so of late when I need to clean or do maintenance on that end I just net him and keep him in a bucket until I am done so that he can't attack me. well today while trying to siphon off algea growth he was going NUTS, so I tried for almost 15 minutes to net him and in the process ended up damaging my galaxia a bit, and still couldn't catch him, which left a half done job of cleaning.

I am so sick of the dumb clownfish that I half considered tearing apart the tank to catch him and flush him today, I was seriously irrate, screaming, cussing, and finally I gave up infuriated.

Has anyone else ever had this problem with a clownfish? What did you do? I can't just keep netting him, it is stressful for the fish and too hard on me as well. I am considering getting those reefgloves at Gary's. I assume that the painful bites will be no longer felt with the gloves on but am I crazy? Any thoughts here. Honestly I love my clown but I am frustrated to the point of wanting to squish him in my bare hands.

All of my clowns do the same thing. Either get the gloves or stop being such a sissy :) Oh and don't be mad at the clown for trying to protect its space.

If you really want to punish him, make him live in my tank.....:worried2:

I had the same thing with my cinnamon clowns. BTW, it's probably the female attacking you:) I ended up taking mine to the LFS. I was hesitant but adopted two false percs from someone tearing down their tank, and I LOVE them, they don't attack and are really active and fun to watch wiggling. Anyway, don't flush her!

My false percs never attack either.

I agree, don't flush her. Sell or give her to a LFS if you get no takers.

If you've got a gold (non-reactive) ring, try wearing that: mine used to concentrate attacks on the stones, which it apparently thought were eyes. ;)

That clownfish isn't nothing. You should have seen me try to clean the class when I had my 5-6'' panther grouper. :D

Tim you are REALLY starting to push my buttons :p

mine is a false perc.

Dwayne, it really is painful after 20 or more times in the same place in a few minutes.

and no I am not going to flush the fish, I said I FELT like flushing it because it was being so aggressive

Pushing buttons is one of my favorite things!!!:D

I have 2 false percs too, guess maybe they need something to protect to get agressive... they are really tame.

in my old tank the same fish had the same anemone but it NEVER got like this, maybe it is the larger tank, it just feels like that area is all for it. or maybe it is because it is getting older.

yeah that really does hurt. I can see how they easily fight off fish many times their size when protecting their anemones

If you think thats bad then you should come let my GSM female take a bite out of you. Now she can BITE.

I have a GSM with an anemone and never not once has she ever shown any aggression, maybe I am just lucky or I just have a really wimpy GSM.
