SO here is what I did today I made a diy kalk dripper 10.00$ but uses a gift card so free to me. . I used a simply orange roughly 1/2 gallon. I used 1/2 teaspoon pickling lime mrs. Wages 2.88$ And i added 7.5ml of vinegar. And 1$ check valve petco. Basically how does my ratio sound to start. Testing levels tommorow. But for 3.88$ seems to work

Google diy kalk dripper my Photobucket is messed up. Basically I did drill two holes in the lid and one to start the siphon and one to drain the kalkwasser and airline check valve to drip it in there

I was wondering about the ratio 7.5ml of vinegar for half gallon and 1/2 teaspoon of pickling lime for 1/2 gallon. I have it set to almost the evaporation rate

There's no need to add vinegar to the mix, but it won't hurt anything. Up to 1 tsp will dissolve in ½ gallon of water.

So down the line if I want to organic carbon dose. Then I can make another drip system with either vinegar or vodka or a mixture of both. And follow the randy Holmes chart and ramp up that way. But absolutely not ramp up vinegar in the kalk right. And i am assuming you ment 1 teasooon of kalk powder per half gallon. I intentional started low for two reasons it was more of a little experiment for the future. Tank is new and I have 3 frags that's it. However today is a frag swap so I am getting a bunch today. And at the same time buying calcium, alkalinity and magnesium tests. I only had the 3 frags 1 week. But I wanted the bugs worked out the dripper first

Yes, it's 2 tsp per gallon, or 1 tsp per ½ gallon.

Using a separate system for dripping vinegar might be easier to control than mixing it into the Kalk, but people have made both approaches work.
