I just replaced my "700 GPH" Mag 7 with a "635 GPH" Eheim 1260 and...

I think you will like the Eheim. I have been through a lot of pumps and money wasted.

1 Quiet one 3000 not quiet but rattily it was connected with similar plumbing. It did not flow nearly as well.

2 Mag7 noisy with added heat to tank but I like it best now to mix saltwater in trash can because it starts usually.

3 Cap 1800 quieter than Mag 7 and Quiet One 3000 but just made me think it would catch on fire like a Rio due to poor construction.

4 Rio 2700 Noisy with fire paranoia issues

5 Pan World 50px-x decent flow fan noise and that annoying hum still with heat issues. Ended up too much for the sump turnover rate anyway.

6 T3 Velocity dead quiet good flow but also a nice heater.

I like the Eheim 1260 for my needs. It is run externally through 3/4 vinyl with a tee to 2 3/4 pvc returns. Best pump yet. Quiet no leaks, seems to run cool but I will know for sure in the summer. Just thought I would share all my pump money wasting experiences with you. Others have had good luck with these pumps though just my opinion.

Very nice results.

I have a quiet one 3000 for my return right now and it's barely putting out anything so I was looking to replace it.
Right now I have it plumbed to go up about 4ft then it T's off so that the output is in the front of the tank. I'm guessing there's at least 1.5' on each side after the T.

Only choice I have for my setup is submersible pump too.
I was looking at the quiet one 4000, ocean runner or the eheim 1262....
How do you guys think the quiet one 4000 will compare to the 1262 after that much head? Would it be worth it to get the eheim?

I replaced a QO 4000 with a eheim 1260 and had better flow...significantly better flow (probably 100-200gph). This is with 4ft of head. Actually the eheim had more plumbing (2 additional 45 degree 1" elbows). The eheim is also "much quieter".

Wow.
The Eheim 1260 "635 GPH" pump outflows a QO 4000 "1017 GPH" pump? Are the Eheim pumps this good or are the other brands (literally) overrated?

Wow is right if a 1260 truly outperforms a QO 4000.
That just about made up my mind right there.

There's nothing wrong with my QO 3000. It's a great pump. It just doesn't pump as much as I want for my application.

Yeah, I think smj817 said in another thread that he used some extra teflon tape to make the threaded end work which is what I'll probably end up doing.

Where's the cheapest price for these?
Marinedepot has it for $130.

Has anyone found a flow table for these? I found the charts on Marine Depot, but it's not very precise exrapolating 6' flow rates from a curve chart. :)

Thanks,
Dan

I looked at the flow charts and compared and also used the head loss calc. They are not accurate. According to those, a 1260 and Mag7 should be ~ the same. Not even close.

Yep, the flow charts don't look right.

So is it the 1250 that realistically looks to be to between the mag5 and 7?

Which pump would you guys use if you wanted to upgrade to something stronger than the maxijet 1200 but weaker than the mag3? If the flow charts are to be believed, the smaller eheims don't do head pressure at all.

Thanks,
Dan

Who the heck knows. I wish there were some decent testing done on this stuff. I'm sure the 1250 would be much stronger than the equivalent Mag3 pump. I'd agree that it would be more like a Mag5/7. BTW, Mag3-5 is a very minor change. Mag5-7 is a very large change in flow.

glad i found this post, i need to replace my mag that is going threw my chiller, it is just pushing the water way to slow for me. i have a eheim on my protein skimmer for 3 yrs now and no problems, i guess i need to change out to on for the chiller...

So for the 1262, should I go with 3/4" or 1" plumbing?

If 1", what's the best way to go up from the 3/4" hose barb outlet that comes with it? (Specific advice is appreciated as I'm no plumbing expert and want to order parts asap).
THANKS.

I was performing routine maintenance on my MAG7 pump I use externally in a closed SCWD loop for my 40 gallon FOWLR. I soaked the parts in vinegar and cleaned and rinsed them thoroughly, nothing new/different than what I always do every 2-3 months. So I reassembled the pump but one of the plastic posts broke as I was screwing the impeller cover on the pump. It just snapped, I was being careful not rushing everything was going fine ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ it just snapped! SO I need a new pump and I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t want to spend money on a mag due to how easily it snapped. I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t want to throw money at this product again.

I was going to get the EHEIM universal, (part#1262), 900 gdh 11ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢6ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ head, but is this too much for my system, or should i go after the 1260, the SCWD eats up some gdh so i was going with the higher gdh rated pump.

Should i run this pump with 1" or 3/4" tubing?

are the input and output threaded, Do i need to use Hoses and hose connections due to the german threading ??

Thank you for the timely piece!!!

i just got a 1262, it's not metric. it has 3/4" threads on both the inlet and outlet. it comes with barbs that screw in, for 3/4" hose on the outlet and 1" hose on the inlet.

dunno about the squid, but i'd probably go with the 1262.
