I love wild acros! Here is the proof...

Piper27

I love bengals
Here are some of the corals I am keeping in my 40 breeder. Its basically all wild corals, some I have had for years and years, while some in the tank are pretty new. Basically all pictured have been with me for a long time though. I just had to post some shots since we got a new macro lense. Its not the best, especially because I shot freehanded but I think they turned out pretty good. Once I play around with white ballance more things will be easier.
I get the most satisfaction out of growing wild corals. Sometimes you don't know what its going to be or what color its going to be. The below piece I got as a small green wild aussie "frag", now look at it. This is why I love wild and mariculture corals! Enjoy and please let me know what you think. I do not have people over to see my tank so this is how I get to share.

Now this is a rainbow! Its a wild aussie piece and its my favorite for sure. Not sure what the species is but the base of this nub is almost one inch thick. If you have an idea of what this is please speak up. The pink tips didn't show to well under the light I photographed under but its good enough.

Good old maricultured tricolor

Aussie pink acro, also not sure of the species but its my second favorite. It was a little hard for me to get the color with the camera since its so bright.

Another nice aussie piece. Might be a plana, I love the white branches and gold polyps on the end of the branches. Nice solid blue tips too.

Here is another shot of the above coral

Prizm acro, another wild one I have had for years. Very similar color pattern compared to the bad azz at the bottom but a totaly different growth pattern. The growth always seems to branch off at the same angle when growing off the main branch. I call it prizm acro because when I ran 10k halides it had neon blue tips and yellowish branches with green at the base. I love this thing. Its crazy how acros can change color so dramatically given the right conditions!

This was just a few polyps that hitchhiked on the side of a mariculture plug, now they are branching out nice after encrusting for a year. The branches are really skinny and I am not familiar with whatever species it is, the growth doesnt look like its a nana or validia which is what I thought it would be.

I think this is a monticulosa, which I LOVE.

I believe this is an abrolhosensis, and in the flesh of the pink tips are blue squigle lines. This thing is THICK!

Ok ok, its not wild... But I still like it. Awesome coral when its colored right.

Oh man do I love yellow!

Humilis, another one of my favorite nubby sticks.

Gotta have a millie, so mine is purple tip since I haven't seen them much.

Bad azz acro, had it for years and have spread around lots of frags in my area. Great neon blue tips with a neon green base with pink and purple in the branches. Even green rings on the end of the blue tip. I need to get a better shot of this one...

Super nice, you wouldn't happen to have a full colony or top down shot of that milli in the second last picture?

Nice collection!! These are all in a 40b??

Do us all a favor and post a few colony pics and then a FTS!!

Again, nice looking corals [emoji106]

Holy crap outstanding collection they are all so freaking nice, your second favorite is my new favorite.

Thanks bro, that pink and red polyped Aussie acro is freaking awesome. I love the round coralites and tabling growth on it. Frags go quick when I can get one cut that's for sure.

Really great looking acros!!!
Can't wait to get my tank up and running to try as well.

Thanks, please share with everyone when you do. I see your going to do a zeo tank too. I wish I had the patience and money for that, they are beautiful!

Super nice, you wouldn't happen to have a full colony or top down shot of that milli in the second last picture?

That is a pic from the top, but my lights are so close I can't look straight down on the corals. I will take a pic of the colony for you next time I have the camera out. The growth tips are baoneally white.

Great collection. I love the yellow one the most.

Yea I just got that one recently, seems like it will hold its color nice and I can't wait til its a colony! Very hard to find true yellow corals that's for sure.

I like em all too

Thanks, I do have a few that I am getting rid of though. Two turned out to be all green and kinda boring :(

Nice collection!! These are all in a 40b??

Do us all a favor and post a few colony pics and then a FTS!!

Again, nice looking corals [emoji106]

I will get a FTS with our wide angle lens when I clean the tank. I will have to do that once before I upgrade to a 24" wide 19" tall 3' long tank. The fish defiantly need more room, a 40 breeder is way to small for what we have. I don't think they can wait til we move next year. Then we will be building a very large tank to combine all our tanks together, I can't wait to have a fish room!

awesome shots of some beautiful acros!! thanks for sharing

Your welcome :) Thanks for replying!

Brilliant :eek2: Now that you have posted them beautiful corals and pictures your pm will soon be full. I like all but love the pink aussie:beer: Awesome job.

Awesome shots Piper! Looking forward to getting a branch of that rainbow!

nice aussies! no pest at all? <--my main fear

I am pretty sure he quarantines them before putting them into the DT. I have never seen anything nasty from the pieces I get from him.

Hi
Great collection. Thanks for sharing. Could you post some system and maintenance details please?

For sure, I will make a post about that aspect as soon as I can.

nice aussies! no pest at all? <--my main fear

Hey, you can't have fun in this hobby if your always worried about pests :) I have been through a number of pests and some were worse than others. But I learned from it, and now that I know how to rid corals of their pests efficiently, reefing is 10 times as fun. The worst was aefw and that battle lasted a long time due to me underestimating their potential. That was a number of years ago. I qt mainly to keep these out of my display. Pests did make me a little paranoid in a since though.
Having them does suck but a part of keeping coral is dealing with pests. Even if your smart about it you can still get them though. I have got all my pests through club members and seen more pests in people's tanks than I have brought home on wild corals. I do have a good method of choosing corals that I buy from stores though, which helps minimize pest problems. There are always thoes people that are out for the dollar and do things like cut up wild colonies and sell frags to club members (not talking about any specific club) even knowing their corals have pests. I have heard the words "its all about the money" before... It happens, so no matter if you buy from "trusted" members or not the risk is the same in my eyes. The real risk is not knowing what to look for, or not knowing what pests come on the corals you buy. That's the real risk.
I have not found any pests on the Aussie frags I have aquired. Most of them have been frags so it was fairly simple to get through a qt process. I have qted corals a few different ways with success over the years, everyone's methods are different. Some peoples qt method are more easy than others and some are more certain than others. As long as your prepared to deal with them if they are present you will be ok.

I love that coral too. I don't think I will get flodded by PM's from people. I would have to oversaturate my pictures instead of under saturate them... Just kidding...

Awesome shots Piper! Looking forward to getting a branch of that rainbow!

Thanks man, I got you. And yes I do have certain qt procedures.

Very nice collection. Any tips on getting the wild pieces to color up ?

I have had a ton of wild prices start off great but never get back to that original intensity

Bob

Glad you are just a few minutes away from me :) All the frags I get from Piper27 grow like weeds, even a little nub from that pink acro.

Those are crackerjack crazy beautiful mate, just stunning
Last night i discovered a black crab by torch light calmly ripping acro polyps off a stag while he stood on the acro he'd already snacked on judging by the tip damage.

I stood there in the dark and actually said quite loudly ' you are so $%#$@ dead you $#%#$@ crab bastard ' - i take this sorta thing personally :hammer:

Man I love that tricolor:) beautiful collection mate:beer:.
Did you get the little blighter Biggles?
