I moved my anemone

I moved it from my 75 to clean that tank into a temp home in my 55. Yesterday it looked fantastic and happy even at night. Since the lights came on this morning its shrunken and laying on its side. I dunno what to do, I don't want to stress it out too much by moving it alot. I have two 150w metal halides on this tank currently. My hateful little clowns sure do love it... but its about 6-8 in wide however its shriveled to maybe an 2 -3inches. Ugh, I just don't want to leave anything in distress while at work...

How long has this other tank been set up? And how long have you had the LTA?

How deep is the sandbed in the "new" tank?

This tank has been going for 13 months... my sandbed is pretty shallow, about 2 inches and I have had my LTA for about 8 months in the other tank...

Tested everything and all is well.

I have 4 small damsels, 2 tiny blennies, my pair of clowns -then a clean up crew.

It could be just the stress of moving it to another tank.

However, I would increase the sand depth near the anemone. You don't have to add more sand, just move some around so that it is deeper in that area.

How long do you plan on keeping it in this tank ?

I plan on keeping it here for the next 3 months at least until the 90 is up and going, or if he's super happy he can stay. I'm flexible with letting him decide

Okay I have put some more sand around him but I want to make sure that he will be okay while I'm at work...

Then you might want to think of adding more sand -- as opposed to moving it around -- just so that it looks even. But, that is completely your choice.

How much flow do you have in this tank, and are the powerheads covered?

Well, I had to maxi jet600 (the 55 gal is more of the hidden let all my guys grow bigger to add them to either of the two DT) but I removed one maxi jet and the other is on the complete and opposite side.

I would still cover it -- they sell screen/sponges for the Maxi jets that work perfectly.

Trust me when I say that the powerhead being on the opposite side of the tank is no assurance that it won't get sucked into it --- especially since the LTA hasn't planted its foot yet.

Okay, I have placed a temp egg crate blocking off that last 1/8 of the tank including the power head until I get some screen/ cover. Is there anything else I can do to make him happy?

Also, someone told me to get maybe a small pottery pot and place him in there...but I dunno if I'm comfortable with that. I don't want him to get attatched to that and then have to rip it away. Ugh!

Good for you. I have had a couple of LTAs sucked into powerheads, so I didn't want the same thing to happen to you.

Besides moving some sand around, all you can do is wait and see.

The only way I would do that is if you put some sand in there too -- just not the empty pot. IME, an LTA is only happy when its foot is buried in the sand.

Thanks a bunch Todd, I'm always up for advice and someone else that has already learned their lesson the hard way. Well appreciate all your help and I think I will stick with the deeper sand and see how he fairs. I will keep you updated!!!!
