I need a few pointers............

Another 2 questions:
What times do other reefers turn on their moonlights and halides and what time do they turn them off? I have bought a Coralife 65W PC which will have a pure actinic bulb in it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Are these guys reef safe? I would love one for my 50. Mainly SPS (80% SPS 20% LPS).

Most angels have a tendancy to pick on corals plus he gets pretty big for a nano!
How big is your nano? Oh sorry ,I see you want it for your 50G.
Sure is purty,though!

attinics--9 am- 9pm
halides 10am-8 pm this simulates dawn, day and dusk conditions. My sun and flower corals prefer dusk to be feed(polyps are extended then)
Moon rays come on after attincis go out--just for viewing--no other real purpose.

Thanks guys! I saw that getting a juv. Blue face is very rare and I can settle with a regular one. I am going to get one and watch his behavior.

I run my actinic from like 7:30 to 7:30, 10k form 9:30 to 5:30. I think, didnt look at the timers but thats close. Moonlight on when 10k is off.

See that's the thing. Is I have actinic which I was thinkin of running from 7:30am to 8:30pm and a 14K 250W halide from 8:00-8:15am to 7:30pm.

I never purchased moonlights. Are they necessary for the aquarium? Do the corals need them?

Fish List As Of Now:
>1. Pair of False Perculas
>2. Purple Firefish
>3. Blue Face Angel
>4. Sleeper Banded Goby
>5. I was also thinking of either a Labout's Fairy Wrasse or a Male Leopard Wrasse

LMK what you guys think.

They are decoration--very difficult to find any substantiated proof that they are used by the inverts or fish for any reason.
Cycling attinics and halides--yes--certain corals open their polyps early in the morning or late in the evening--triggered by changing light conditions.

Thanks all! I have offically decided on a light system in which th PC actinics will turn on at 6:30, then the halides will turn on at 7:30am.Then the halides will turn off at 7:30 and the actincs will follow at about 8:45.

Does anyone have any comments on my ideas of fish? I am aware that the Blueface may peck at corals, but I am hoping that I will get one that has gone through behavior training:D.

Well, today my sump overflowed. The return line fell of my return pump, and then it started siphioning. So I had the water from the overflow and water siphoning into the sump. So thank goodness that my acrilic sump os sealed because even through the raised hole in the stand for acess to the sump, was overflowing onto the floor, which is the point at which we started puting water into buckets. Then as we were putting clamps on the return line and the lockline when my dad knocked a can of rust free paint onto the floor and I learned a few new words;)

So all was well until my dad dropped the return pump into the sump and it cracked the bottom and put a hole in the bottom. So we ran to our nearest pet store where I got a new sump and picked up a Fuval 405. My skimmer is not working properly, so this should be good enough filtration until I get back from my weekend in Penn. So I am hoping that all is going to go well, and I am sure it will.

What do people with Fuvals have to say about them?

Fluvals are good cannister filters I have had mine for 5 years.Right now i am just running mine with some filter floss.
They need to be cleaned once a week to prevent it fom becoming a nitrate factory.

actinics- 9:00pm-9:00am
one 50/50 strip-8:00am-10:00am
10k- 9:45am-7:00pm
same 50/50 strip from-6:45pm-9:15pm

i like to try to simulate the sunrise/set

i use one actinic bulb one 50/50 strip and a double row 10k.

King- if I cleaned it out well, but leave the media in is thaty okay? Because I am in no position to be paying for new media every week.

I also plan on having my Euro Reef up and running by next week sometime, but we shall see.

First I would like an answer to my first question of how often I need to clean my Fuval and all that kinda stuff. And I have one other. I really wanted my 50g to be SPS dominated with NO softies at all, but a few shrooms. But when I put a piece of LR in my tank while setting it up I noticed a couple branches of Anthelia. Right now they are under a T12 FW light and are growing. First I would like to know if there is any hope in getting it completely off the rock or should I just go and buy a new piece of rock? And my powerhead is really moving them around. There is a lot of flow in there it looks like. I will have a Mag 7 running for return and a MJ1200 in the show tank. Is that enough flow? Tank is the 36" 50g version. But the flow really blows the anthelia around. Suggestions?

Whats the difference between a four line and a six line wrasse?
Two lines !!!
 Ha, ha, ha!!!

Not to confuse you more but there is also an eight line wrasse.
Do you want to know what the difference is? let me get my calculator.
this link might help but I believe i have seen a 4 line that looks more like the 6 and 8 line then the one listed here!

I have had a sixline and they are wonderful fish ,well suited for a community tank and may eat parasitic snaills and flat worms whic is a plus.

Here is mine i lost him a couple of weeks ago when he went carpet surfing. Make sure you have a good lid, they are excellent jumpers.

Updated Livestock list:

Fish List As Of Now:
>1. Pair of False Perculas
>2. Blue Face Angel
>3. Male Leopard Wrasse
>4. Purple firefish
>5. 4 Line wrasse

Invert List as of now:
>1. Sebae Anemone
>2. Cerith Snail x 4
>3. Nassarius Snail x 4
>4. Turbo Snail x 3
>5. Blood Red Fire Shrimp
>6. Banded Coral Shrimp
>7. Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab x 4
>8. Blue Linckia Sea Star
>9. Tridacna Clam Pack; Ultra Maxima, and Gold Maxima

That's really it as of now for live stock. I am aware that, that list turns out to be a very heavy bio-load, but I do have a skimmer rated 200+ gallons and a fuval canister, and will have a filter sock.

Where can I get dosing medications, like iodine, calcium, kalkwasser, phytoplankton. Anyone have any good sites and or brands that they would recomend?
