I bought a leather finger frag from a guy I met here. During transport it detached from the rock. I have tried glueing it back on twice now but it keeps comming off. I have been using super glue gell. Any other tips?
The super glue gel can even be a hardtask to have stick or work with leathers. The reason for this is because they can really slim up. I would either one get a tooth pick and and stick it through the base of the coral and the rock.
Or you can wedge the frag into a hole or beetween rock with low flow so it can attach.
Within a few days it will start to attach, I would wait a week or so just so the base is attached enough to support the weight of the coral, you dont want the coral to tear off of the rock if it isnt ready yet.
I use a rubberband, but if the frag is really small it is very difficult. I simply place the leather on the rock and wrap a rubberband around both. Don't go too tight or you'll frag the leather again.
I never could get the toothpick method to work. I must have been doing it wrong. HTH
I usually stab mine with a plastic sword (the kind you get in fruity Beach drinks) then I cut off the handel of the sword, glue the bottom of the sword to a rock. Push the leather all the way down the sword. Douse with water until glue is dry. Cut the tip of the sword about 1/4" above the leather and then place a drop of glue on the top of the sword. This acts somewhat like a Cap to keep the coral from sliding off the sword. You can then place the coral in a 'high-medium flow' area and it will open in a few days. Over the course of a month or two the coral will overgrow the sword and you will no longer be able to see it. I have done this numerous times with my leather. Worked great.
