I couldn't help myself So CAl tropical fish had a Lee mar Rimless with 3 side starfire glass 48x30x20 in stock. I bought it and a friend is going to pick it up on Dec 16th and bring it to SR. I've been wanting one for a while.
Congrats on the new tank. What kind of lighting are you going with? I'm still undecided on whether to go halides or T5 on my 75. I think T5s would be enough since my tank is only 19 or 20 inches deep.
If my tank were 20" high (it's 24"), I would feel ok with 250w MHs instead of 400w. And I wouldn't ever end up with sore arm pits reaching in while standing on a stool to rearrange frags on the bottom. I like 20" high.
And doing the math: 48x30x20 = 28800 / 231 = 124.675324 (and change). We'll call it a 125.
Bob, for Rimless tank to look good, the lighting is suspended above the tank without touching the rims, have you though about how you going to mount your light hood?
nice bob, you are all set. All we need is build the extension for your stand and its good to go. after you get the tank I'll have to come over and measure before cutting the wood pieces that you need.
I think you could do some awesome aquascaping with the front to back "depth" (not height!) on that tank. I look forward to seeing it shimmering with beautiful corals in all its rimless glory.
Yah I'm stoked! I also think the extra wide tank will be really cool. I was thinking it might be wise to put some of the more delicate corals in someone else's tank before I switch tanks incase there's a cycling process. When I took my DSB out even though I did it over a month the SPS's didn't like it.
