well i bought this sweet colony of zoa's two days ago, they are burgandy rimmed with a teal blue oral disc. while i was looking at it throught glass at Big al's i also noticed a couple out types of zoa on the rock a red with metallic green centre..told them it was sold and took it home..

3 hours of dripping later (thier salinity was 1.022 mine is 1.026) i put them in the tank

then too my surprise there is also this other creature on the rock...

about the size of a quarter (not sure how i missed it at the fish store)
i looked at it and determined it is not aptasia nor the mojave anemone, so i wasn't too worried, i kust thought it was a large polyp of some sort....i guess it still could be...it doesnt seem to be harming the zoa's that surround it.

it has a slightly dark brown centre with a ring of minty green and what appears to be stripes of white kinda running all through it. it is covered in tentacles that appear to be no longer then 2-3 mm with brown tips.

i thought huh cool paly/ zoa..then i stuck my hand in the tank to move a frag that crab had knocked over and pow...the stuck to my under arm and zapped me...i literally had to use my other hand to pull the rock off my arm with out hurting it...

then i said wow that was cool...i should try to feed it and see what it does...i went and grabbed some frozen mysis, thawed her out in the tanks water and used my turkey baster and very gently squeezed them at the thing...the feeding response was incerdible to watch...i made sure not to blast it but rather off to the side of it, so as not to scare it...little tiny pieces of mysis stuck to the outter edge and the thing turned in to it's self so fast i hardly had time to see it...

this is when i discovered the under side of the oral disc is light pink

for about ten- twenty minutes after the feeding itdid like a victory dance or something, that was also very interesting to watch...it kinda stood right up, still folded in though and then opened up half way, caught some more flying debris and closed up again while still standing...by standing i mean the thing pretty much looked flat on the rock when i got it and when it did this it was about an inch or so above the rock..anyway it repeated this for like i said about 20 minutes...it was very interesting...

i will try very hard to get pics tomorrow though...my wife is out of town and she has the camera with her..

but from the description does it sound anything like an anemone anyone has seen?

i guess it could be a mushroom of some sort...but the stickiness of the thing makes me believe it is an anemone..

that is what it is...guaranteed, not quite as colourfull...but looks just like him..

WOOHOO...i have my first anemone...

Is he reef safe though?

Woohoo...after many minutes of reading it would seem he is...sweet

i will just keep feeding him, and his name will now be piglet...Damn he can eat..
