AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I have the BUG@!@!@!@!!!!!!!@@!@@!!!!!!!@!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed that my teal bush acro was losing tissue, so I pulled it out, on further inspection I found 4 or 6 of these little red dots.

Is that a Red Bug?

My Tort had lost tissue and the base, and so has my Purple bonsai and another acro.

I havn't added anything in months other than a fish and some zoathids, but those were just added in the past few weeks and the bases have lost tissue along time ago.

HELP!?

Like I said, I have not added ANYTHING SPS wise to the tank in the past 2 or 3 months!!!!

do they move around?

i have some red bugs on my valida and they have stayed in check but they can get bothersome

mine are more of a yellow body with a red head.....

once u notice them ull know if u have them just check around the bases of ur sps corals and if u have them u will see the lil buggers crawling around....

they dont like millis or montis though

if u have them that can explain the recession

i havent dosed my tank with interceptor yet due to my inverts and the fact that the red bugs arent going crazy and ive noticed them about 6 months ago

Well, I did a Google Search on them for pictures and mine dosn't look anything like the ones in the pictures. The ones in the pictures are yellow/orange in color with a red head and are all over the coral.

I placed the coral in tap water and I didn't see any of them jump off. When I took the pieces out, the red dot was in the same place?

Does this mean I don't have the Red Bugs? :D

I looked at every SPS in the tank and have not found any little bugs running around on them.

When I noticed the tissue loss on the other corals I fraged the tips and they all have servived but their bases are mostly gone, except for the base of the Purple Bonsai, it has stoped loseing tissue and is growing back.

This could be a very stupid question by me but I'll ask anyway just to eliminate the possibility. Do you feed cyclopeeze ? I regularly see them stuck to acro's for a short time after I feed Cyclopeeze. Just a random thought since you have not seen the red dots move at this point.

placing the coral in tap water or even RO/DI will just lead to more stress..i wouldnt do that at all..get some TMPCC then dip it in that..try and get some more pics..

Based on the supplied picture, I would say no to red-bugs. As stated, they are usually yellowish with a red head. Maybe red flatworms in larval stage?

Well, what ever it is, it isn't in my tank any more.

It's only a 20g, so I did a THOROUGH search on each SPS and didn't find anything that even remotely resembles that.

BTW, that was my only wild colonie in the tank, everything else was frags. I got the frags from two main sources, two guys in the Louisiana Reef Club, I have met both of them in person and have seen their systems and know that they don't have any parasites, well one of them jsut got in some frags that had red bugs, but i ahvn't got frags from him in about 5 months and he jsut got the bugs a few weeks ago. He is going to try in interceptor.

Yeah I ended up with redbugs in my 55g well after I added anything to the tank. Perhaps you just don't notice them until they reach higher numbers.

Just hit em with interceptor. I don't think you had any crustaceans (of value) in your tank so it should be real easy.

Ok guys this is what I got on my Green Acro

Your comments please, HELP!...
For the life of me I can't seem to keep Acro, :sad2: but every thing else is doing fine. Mont', T.Max and Crocea Clam, Polyps, Schrooms, Green Carpet... All dandy. The Mont' is about double it's size!

Richfavinger - Those are most definitely Red Bugs, a decent sized infestation at that.

Yep, those are Red bugs....BTW guys getting Red Bugs is not the end of the world. Treating for them is pretty easy and red bugs dont do too much to corals anyway. They can cause low PE but rarely would cause a coral to RTN. They are far from the tank killer that Acro Eating Flat Worms (AEFW) are. Also I think red bugs are much more common than most people think. I would guess atleast half of the people having SPS (Even the experts) have them.

So what's the treatment Dr? :)
I have Kent Lugol's Iodine, can I dip him?
What about the rest of the tank?

Do a search for Interceptor....it is a Dog Heart Worm Medication. There are plenty of threads that tell how to use it.
