i think i just saved my $4 grand tank and $800 worth of livestock?

imo if you 'own' a tank but pay somebody or have somebody maintain it and all the fixings then you shouldnt be in this hobby. Be a man, go out and spend countless of hours researching, and then come back with knowledge :) the only exclusion are doctors offices, i dont mind going to a docs and stare at a fish tank while waiting 5 hours to stich up an arm :p lol

+1

hey i actually do all the cleanings my self for your information, this is my first time doing saltwater, so thank very much, i may mess up hear and there. apparently waffle is being a little crucial and im glad trademark is kind of on defending me. but im not going to get into this because its one against like 10 so theres no point. my tanks actually pretty good now to me all the fish are fine. but im not buying anymore live stock until like summer so thats liek 6 months from now so you guys don't have to worry. maybe you guys should just answer my question straight on and not criticize my mistake. just didnt want to start anything just wanted some help.

I just read thru this whole thread and I have to say this. No one just jumped in and started ragging on you. You were given many suggestions of slowing down and such and you continue and continue to tell them to F off in a way so eventually they are now getting tired of the Can I get some help but don't tell me what I should do BS.

FYI stabbing an anemone will not kill it. Infact with most nems you can cut them in half and have both halves continue to grow.

For your Op? if the nem was not coming apart then it probably was not dead dead yet (on it's way out yes) and thus was not yet releasing too much toxins.

well whatever i learned alot from this post, i was going to say something but theres no point because in the first 5 post i wasnt bragging or just B.S ing i just wanted to say that i live in a suburban area so prices on everything are gonna be jacked up and very expensive thats all i was saying i wasnt trying to brag. and the second post that one guys sent me was perfect and i answered back nicely because he answered my question and waffle had another question so i answered him. then another person said u spent 800$ but thats when i said i live in a rich area i wasnt trying to brag i was just trying to say that i spent this much because the prices here are jacked up. so if i did start the conflict im srry, but to me if you look back at the first 5 post i was just answering peoples questions and wasnt bragging. so again im sorry if i started it but i was also just defending my lfs guy because hes now pretty much an guy that i see almost everyday and talk to so you want to stand up for you basically friend. just srry if you guys didnt like the way i talked or took stuff in just trying to defend myself and my friend.

I've been on RC since I got in the hobby. I realize in your original post you asked a simple question...you thought, but many times more information is needed before an answer can be given. During this process other information is uncovered; in this case, you being new to the hobby and what appeared you were going fairly fast in stocking things. Yes, folks jumped on this, but not necessarily to criticize but rather to educate you and strongly encourage you to slow down. Probably not what you wanted to hear, none of us who have been there and done that, wanted to hear it at that time, but it was all good information.

I believe your original question was answered, no the anenome most likely was not releasing any toxins, but again good advice to perform water changes and run fresh carbon and to change it out every few days.

There are a lot of very knowledgable people here on RC, we all give advice...no different than your LFS friend. If I could offer a bit of advice though...no one person knows everything. Listen to what they have to say, but afterwards do your own research and see what you find out...if it is the same as what you were told, great, if not, then you need to entertain the idea they gave you bad advice. The key here is to do your own research as well as listening to someone else...ie: your LFS friend.

I'm glad things look good in your tank. Take some time to get to know everything in your tank, then you will be able to tell when something is up. Don't be shy about asking questions, but also be open to the answers you receive. :)

Sorry, but that LFS "guy" is wrong, and doesn't know what he is doing. There is no way you should have put an anemone in your tank this soon.
I would suggest not purchasing another anemone for at least 4 more months, and not before you buy your own test kits.

What size tank do you have?
What lights do you have?
What all do you have in the tank, please list those 13 fish.

First, could you state the tank size and all the fish?

IMO/E, the temps going to 72-74* should have not killed any fish and/or anemone. It is possible that that happening was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back, but not the root cause -- meaning there was something(s) else stressing the fish and anemone before the temp issue.

a pH of 8.0 is fine, and trying to chase a pH value is a fruitless act.

But, if you still want to listen to your "LFS guy" who thought putting an anemone in a newly set up tank, with 13 fish was a good idea, that is your choice. But, from the information given, I feel good saying that your LFS guy isn't your best choice for information.

..... maybe you guys should just answer my question straight on and not criticize my mistake. just didnt want to start anything just wanted some help.

I have asked you (( see above )) questions to help figure out what is going on, and you have yet to address them. Can't help you with out additional information.

To the others --- if you are just going to attack the OP -- DON'T POST.

Now this is getting good! :lmao:

lol srry my computer died and i was using my cousins who came over and his account was still logged in. but my lights are 1 metal halide 10,000k, 2 t5 blue actinics, 4 blue leds. my fish you guys will probably get mad because of a certain fish i have in it but i have 3 tangs (this is the fish you guys will probs be mad at), 3 bangaiis, 3 chromis, 1 goby, 1 purple firefish, 1 wrasse, 2 clownfish, 1 royal gramma. i have 4 corals toadstool who looks like hes doing good hes big and all of his polyps are out, 1 blue big mushroom frag, 1 richordea frag, and a big frag of green star polyps. and i have a test kit that i still am having trouble figuring out. if someone can tell me how to use it, that would help alot. i hope this answers your questions and trying to figure what could be wrong. its 118 gallons weird number i know but its the only one that would fit thats close enough to a 120.

You're going to have to keep an eye on your Banggais. They get along while they're still juveniles, but eventually two are going to pair off and harass--and quite possibly kill--the third one. Watch to see if any of them are hiding in corners or being chased, and try to remove the one(s) being picked on as quickly as possible.

Which test kit(s) do you have? I have a few by Tetra. They should have instructions included with the testing devices. The store you bought them from (at least if it's an aquarium store, and not a general pet store like Petsmart or Petco) should also be able to advise you on how to use the kit.

ok ya they are actually being chased so should i get rid of them all of them or just the ones being picked one because they are hiding. the only problem is trying to get them out is going to be a pain but ill try my best. thank you, and the test kit i have is reef master, it did come with instructions but i dont think i performed them right. also it doesnt tell you what number each type of test like kh and phosphates it doesnt say a number that it should be at. is there suppose to be a number if there is what should it be?

That is a very large bio-load for a month or 2 old 118 -- and would really like to know the current water parameters. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an ammonia spike.

What tangs are they?

What wattage is that MH? How long is the tank? What reflector are you using for the MH? (( really concerned that you wouldn't get enough light spread for the anemone.

IMO, what happened is that too much of a bio-load was added too quickly to an immature tank, and then adding an anemone to that situation was just asking for it to die.

o alright gotcha, so basically its just too many fish a tank that is too young.
the tank is 36''x24''x31''. the metal halide is 150 watts, the tangs are one blue hippo tang, one powder brown tang, one black mimic tang. not sure about the levels because im not sure how to do it but i will figure it out and as soon as i do i will post it for you to see. and im not sure about the reflector.

The "hippo" tang is going to get way too big for that tank -- will get over a foot long.
Without the numbers for your parameters, this will only be a guess, but I feel safe saying that you added way too much livestock too soon, it caused an ammonia spike which killed the fish/anemone.

What brand name is the fixture?

the brand name is aquaticlife and i got it from petsolutions.com. but when i had my lfs guy do the test i think he did ammonia test and he said it was fine this was done yesterday. but i dont know excactly but he did do test and he said they look fine but like i said before the PH just a little off but you guys said its alright so i guess the PH is fine.
