I think my wife may be crazy, please help me

Hello all!

I have 3 fish in a qt, a rhomboid wrasse, a leopard wrasse, and a flame wrasse. All have been in qt coming up on 4 weeks now. About 5 years ago we lost all of our fish to velvet that came in on a tang and we left the hobby for a bit over it. We always believed that well fed fish could overcome anything, nope! Fast forward to now, well quite a few months now, we are being very proactive with qt.

Anyways, these fish have all had their Prazi treatments and all reacted well to it, the flame got a few spots on his head that my wife assumed was a reaction to prazi, we don't know. She spends literally hours staring at these fish everyday, so she can see if something is off. One minute she thinks they are prazi resistant flukes, then the next she thinks it's ich, then prazi resistant flukes again and so on.

We are a little reluctant to treat with copper but not so much TTM so we will probably treat with that if need be. My question is, and this is because according to my wife, some wrasses don't show ich spots. Is this true? I would like to not have to treat for ich if no need but definitely will if it is needed. I haven't seen any spots but she says she sees them(why I think she is crazy) but only the flame wrasse is flashing off the rocks here and there. I did see the leopard flash once off the sand but I think that is because she kicks the sand up to find food.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Justin

I don't know about wrasses and ich spots, but if your wife watches them all the time and thinks something is off you should trust her because:
A. Happy wife, happy life
B. She probably is right

What she describes sounds like there might be something going on.

Well we started copper(cupramine) on the wrasses. We are going to do increments of .05 over the weekend to get it to .4 and hold for a month. Possibly even Tuesday till it gets there. We have no idea what it is but they have had three treatments of prazi already and are being fed metrodozinal as well. Hopefully in a month they can go in the DT.

Didn't read the thread, just the title.

Was there really a question there? All women are crazy, its the whole extra chromosome thing. :D

Typically, happy wife = happy life.

Yes lol, originally the question was can wrasses not show inch spots? My wife wanted to do a preventative treatment for ice because they were still flashing after prazi.

The distinction between flukes and ich is that flukes are mobile on the fish. So if you see a spot change location you are very likely dealing with flukes.
The diagnosis is of course easiest with a binocular microscope. Given the amount of money most spend on fish the $500 to $1000 is actually a rather reasonable investment (and probably an easy sell if the wife is more crazy about the fish than you).

A treatment I would recommend if the chances are equally divided between Cryptocaryon and Capsalidae (skin flukes) would be hyposalinity for at least a month as it kills both quite reliability. On top of that you can always continue treatment with PraziPro as it works in both, fresh and saltwater. The fish will actually handle it better in lower salinity.

Well she was right lol. They ended up getting ich and are now in cupramine at .45. Have been for about a week now. Trust the wife next time. We chose cupramine over hypo, really no reason, maybe because it's easier.
