Bristleworm, nice job on the build! I'm curious about the tank you re-siliconed for your friend. Did you re-use the spacers between the panels from the factory, use different ones, or none at all? Just curious. Thanks!

None at all. I believe it can weaken the tank later. At least that's what I've heard. I don't there is much data to support that.

I use the check valves for a few reasons.

1. I don't like my returns sitting on the top of the water.
2. I hate when my DT back siphons 20 gallons into my sump.
3. I don't like drilling holes in my loc-line or returns.
4. They are unions and allow me to break the returns at the bulkheads.
5. They look cool for the ladies. Ha Ha

That's fine, some things folks just have to learn for themselves. I would suggest that at the very least you put a ball valve above each check valve so that the cleaning process is much easier. I imagine the ladies would be even more impressed .....

I used check valves in the past and they always fail when I needed them. Not the first few months but after 6 months they won't hold water.

Mine won't hold water 100% right now. I'm thinking about putting another one inline maybe above the return pump.

It's nice not having 20 gallons flood my sump and the DT staying at same level.

Lol...that's a good idea.

This is the chalice coral i picked up at Petco as a pagoda coral since it came in as a pagoda coral.

Not bad for a $30 chalice.

I'm gonna keep him in this basket for the first 24-48 hrs. If he doesn't deflate, I'll release him on a rock or rock rubble at the sandbed level. Tank is new, but rock and sand is old, we'll see how he does.

Bleached refers to an animal with a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthella algae that has expelled them due to high temps or too much light.

For SPS yes, for nems this is not the case.

Many times nems will bleach due to lack of light, where the zoox dies and the nem expels it. If there is too mugh light, the nem simply moves.
